FC: Kauai Honeymoon 2010 | Walter and Lynn's
Aloha ! | We Made It! After 11 long hours on the plane and one scary 30 minute plane ride through a thunderstorm, we arrived to a rain-drenched Kauai. | Kauai
Views from our room at Marjorie's Kauai Inn B & B Clockwise: the beautiful Lawai valley, our room, our beloved private hot tub, the pool
 Exploring Shipwreck Beach
The majestic beauty of Spouting Horn
 Our visit to Waimea Canyon
Pihea Trail We took Pihea trail off Waimea Canyon for a hike. It was a foggy day, so we weren't sure what we'd see. Thankfully the clouds parted momentarily for a beautiful view of the canyon and ocean below (top right.) Because there had been rain the day before, the trail was very muddy. It was more of a mud slip-and-slide than a hike (bottom right)!
Because of the mud, the trail was way more strenuous than it would have been normally. We both worked up a sweat and got plenty muddy in the process. But we reached the peak and lived to tell the tale!
Beaches (clockwise): Hanakapi'ai, Poipu, Tunnels, Secret, Maha'ulepu | Beach Days
Glass Beach Right near an old industrial dumping ground, this beach has all sorts of interesting garbage shaped by years in the sea, such as an old car engine (left.) On the shores is a mixture of sand and bits of broken glass (right.) We had fun exploring the beach and trying to figure out what we were seeing. | Driftwood fort We found this driftwood structure at Maha'ulepu Beach (right.) We joked that we could have saved a lot of money staying here instead of at a B & B! | Monk Seal meeting When we were swimming at Poipu Beach, a monk seal laid down in the sand for an afternoon nap (left.) Lifeguards fenced an area off for the seal (right.)
Aerial view of Waimea Canyon | Up in the air | Aerial view of the Na Pali Coast, visible only by helicopter in the winter | Lynn and Walter take a helicopter ride
Flying right over the Wailua River | A stunning view of a part of Kauai that cannot be reached by car | A scene from Jurassic Park was filmed at this waterfall | Walter was taking pictures like crazy! | Flyin' high
Back on land! | With the doors off of our helicopter, it felt like we were birds flying over the island. After an exhilarating one hour ride, we arrived safely back on land. We saw some truly amazing things on our journey! | Before the helicopter trip.... | ...and after!
New Year's Eve, before dining at The Beach House restaurant, Poipu
Strangely enough, we ran into Dr. Schottenfeld, the Master of Davenport college at Yale. He was Master when Walt was in school. Small world! | Braving one of the wilder parts of the trail | The mist cleared in time for us to catch a beautiful rainbow!
Hiking the Kalalau Trail We did the 2-mile hike to Hanakapi'ai Beach. It was a tough, with slippery rocks and some narrow parts right by the cliffs, but the views were spectacular. | above: Walter and I take a break from the hiking to pose for a picture. top right: A splendid view of our final destination, the lovely Hanakapai' ai Beach.
