S: Life Is Rough
FC: Life Is Rough
1: Life as a slave was hard for me working as a child. I lived in Virginia. I worked in the fields with the others planting crops. The hardest thing about my life was going to sleep at night not knowing if I was going to see my family again or knowing if we are going to be split up.
3: My escape was not easy, it was hard trying to hide and thinking what if I got caught what would happen if I did. I decided to flee because I was tired of working for the man so I started planning my escape and others thought it was a good idea so they wanted to come along.
5: I had a friend who escaped and he once came back for me but I didn't think it was a good idea at the time, but he left a few directions to a few houses that he knew I would get a good nights sleep and a good meal he promised me that I would be safe. So I followed his directions and he was right I did get a good meal, a good night's sleep, and I was safe.
6: They told me that if I was going to bring more runaways that they were going to help me no matter what all I had to do was say I am a friend with friends. I was afraid of being caught but I had to be brave for my people so I could attempt to rescue others and let them know they would survive as I did.
8: I came across other runaways and most of them were teenagers they were tired of living that rough life getting beatings for no reason and always being told what to do and when to do it. That made me want to try even harder because I understood how they felt.
11: Hi my name is Jenasjia Broadaway and this story is about my life as a slave I was born in Virginia and I was born on August 24, 1723. I was a slave at one point of time and I escaped and tried to help end slavery. I was very successful at getting away I was never caught not once. And now that slavery is over I can wake up in the morning knowing that I will always be safe with a smile on my face.
