S: Little Red Riding Boots

Authors: Noah Watson, Kali Pincus, Jackson Porter, Zayd Hinedi | Little Red Riding Boots

Once upon a time deep in the prairies there lived a lovely, young girl named Little Red Riding Boots. Little Red wanted to bake a batch of her famous wheat cookies for her poor, sweet grandmother who was oh so very sick with her cough getting worse and worse every day. As the wheat cookies were in the oven, she got everything she needed including a basket, a cloth, and her red boots. When the cookies were done she put them into the basket and started skipping to grandma's.

While she was skipping through the peaceful forest, she stumbled. As she laid on a crunchy, damp bed of long dry grass and wildflowers, she saw something. "What on earth was that?" she thought to herself. "I've never seen anything so quick and stealthy."

She laid on the ground a moment longer and saw the orange flash pass by again. She yelled out, "Hey, you, come back!" The fox came out from behind a bush and stood in front of her. "How do you do?'' muttered Red. ''I was just looking for my pen. It fell and I can't find it, but I was on my way to my mom's house to have some cooked up catfish.Would you like to come?'' the fox asked Red with a big toothy grin on his face. ''No, sorry, I'm going to my grandma's house to give her these wheat cookies that I made. She is very sick and wheat cookies are her favorite.'' Red explained.

Red and the Fox parted ways and Red continued on her way to Grandma's. Little did she know, the sneaky fox was following her. He was hungry and grannies were his favorite snack... As the fox opened the door grandma noticed him and hid in her closet. The fox went into her bedroom and wondered, "Oh where is grandma...Why isn't she in bed?" The fox thought of a plan; he put on grandma's clothes, climbed into her bed and covered his furry, red feet with a blanket.

"Grandma, Grandma, I'm here. Where are you?" Red announced. "I'm in here." The Fox whispered softly in his best grandmother-like voice. Red thought it was her grandma and went to hug her. Red stopped and froze. She asked curiously, "Grandma what big ears you have." "The better to hear you," the Fox answered. "What a big wet nose you have." "The better to smell you with" sniffled the Fox. "What big teeth you have." Red yelled. "The better to eat you with!" The Fox growled.

Then the fox leaped in front of Red ''Where is my grandma!?''exclaimed Red. ''I ate her right up and she tasted like cookies and I want more!'' lied the fox. The fox made a big, big, big mouth and ate Red without chewing and then...

Grandma popped out of the closet and started scolding the red fox. "How dare you eat my grandchild! I will make sure that your punishment is the worst punishment you ever had!"

Grandma pulled out a magic wand and chanted, "You have done wrong, now I'll turn you into the ugliest being in the world...a bumpy, slimy, disgusting, toad!" The fox tried to escape but it was too late! Suddenly there was a flash of white light covering the entire room which made both of them blinded for a moment. It was done; the transformation was complete. The fox had been turned into a slimy, green toad. He yelled and yelled, but no one could understand him because all they heard was...

"Crooooaaaaak, Croooooaaaaak!!". "Where is Red?!" Grandma cried, Just then, grandma noticed a pair of red boots at the front door. They were Little Red's boots but there was no Little Red. Grandma worried that her magic had turned her sweet granddaughter into a toad too! The Grandmother waved her wand one last time and suddenly Little Red reappeared with a big smile on her face. "I never knew you were magical." "Well sweetie, you should never judge a book by it's cover." Grandma said as she took a big bite out of the best wheat cookie she had ever tasted!

The fox, now known as "Toady" was never, ever heard from again. Red went back to her house and forever remembered that looks don't always show who you really are. Red lived happily ever after, opening up a world famous "Wheat Cookie Shop" and making millions of dollars. The End
