S: Abbey Hoffman Lost/Found April 2011

1: Lost/Found Abbey Hoffman April 11-15, 2011 Student Gallery Queens College City University of New York Photographed by Marianna Marisova

4: The installation Lost/Found is composed completely of toys that were donated to me. I hand-painted each toy with white acrylic paint. I began this process as a way to negate the functional existence of the toys, symbolizing the death of childhood. I soon saw that the toys took on new identities as art objects, but the layers of paint only served to conceal the past that was still present beneath the surface; thus, the objects were simultaneously lost and found. This dual existence prompted me to physically return to places of my childhood and explore what I could find in the midst of what I thought to be lost. I continued to explore this concept through my various arrangements of toys within the gallery space. --Abbey Hoffman
