After skipping 2010 we decided to look for somewhere different to go pursue the ever elusive Trout. We finally decided on Libby Camps, in the North Maine Woods. | Seems like we have managed to find another remote location, off the beaten path, away from all the typical distractions of life. Its been run by the Libby family for over 100 years.

"Olin" Built in 1931 and named after the Olin family who regularly visited the camp. All the comforts of home; gas lights and running water and don't forget the spectacular view.

As the sun rises on our first day of fishing, Dad and I are excited about visiting Brown Pond. There is one of Matt's outpost cabins located here, where we had to wait out a passing thunder shower. (Also where Dad took his first fall!)

While it was a slow day for fishing, we quickly slowed down and enjoyed the peace and quiet. John with the first, Dad with the biggest and last, tie for most (5) and tied for smallest. Dad with the fall!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! What could be better? A full day of fishing! A beautiful sunset! And a hammock gently swaying in the evening's breeze.

Day 2. Flyout to Little Pleasant Pond. Northwest at 2500 feet and 130 miles per hour............ we arrive at Little Pleasant Pond, however it turned out to be VERY Pleasant.

This cabin, owned by the Chancellor of the University of Maine, is alone on a small island in the center of Little Pleasant Pond. | Tally: Most-John 24 to 21, Biggest-John, First John, Last-John, Smallest-Dad

YES! That there is a road!! No, we didn't walk down it, we DROVE down it! This led us to The Salmon Pool, on the Aroostook River. Dad nailed 2 landlocked Salmon, and a bunch of trout. Not to mention his son!!!

Down a Moose Trail to the Brown Pond Brook Spring Hole. A very tight fit, hard to cast, crazy insects, but great fishing!

It was close, VERY close, Dad almost went down had it not been for those two small Spruce trees that kept him from sitting into the mud on the hike out of the Spring Hole. Tally: Most John 27-24, Biggest John, First Dad, Last-John, Smallest-tie.

 A return to Little Pleasant Pond. Tally: Most-John 20-13, First & Last-John, Biggest (of the week & day)-John, Smallest-tie.

Upper Hudson Pond & the amazing Green Drake Hatch. Truly a once in a lifetime trout catching extravaganza. The water was boiling with trout at sunset! | Over an hour and a half drive on dirt logging roads, a mile hike through the wilderness to a beautiful lake surrounded by old growth forest and hills. Many NEVER get to fish such an event.

Fish alone all day long..... | Cook our dinner over a campfire.....

And as the sun sets on this beautiful day, the Drakes start hatching and the fish come alive. By far the most exciting, frustrating, funniest, and best fishing ever in our lives!

Fished until DARK! Tally: Most-Dad 21-20, Biggest-Dad, First & Last-John, Smallest-John (and the photo proves it!) That poor fish never knew what hit him. And another muddy shoe for Dad.

The final fishing day. Spring Pond, VERY windy, and the fish were not cooperating at all! Even though the fishing was slow the day went fast. | Flew out and hiked an old logging trail to the pond. | We tried to out smart the fish all day................they proved to be smarter. | Tally: First, smallest & most-John 2-1, Biggest & Last-Dad.

"More than half the intense enjoyment of fly-fishing is derived from the beautiful surroundings, the satisfaction felt from being in the open air, the new lease of life secured thereby, and the many, many pleasant recollections of all one has seen, heard and done." Charles F. Orvis, 1886...until next time......
