2: Cyrus Hall McCormick was born in 1809. He grew up on his family's 532-acre farm Walnut Grove",north of Lexington, Virginia. As a boy, McCormick had a talent for both agriculture and inventing. At the age of 15, he invented a lightweight cradle for carting harvested grain 1824. Meanwhile, McCormick's father, Robert, was working from time to time in the farm's smithy on an invention of his own, a horse-drawn reaping machine. When Robert McCormick finally gave up on produce working model, in the early fall of 1831 his son took over the challenge.

A blacksmith by trade, has he established (1837) a shop at Grand Detour, Ill. There he was associated with Leonard Andrus in making 1837 the first Grand Detour steel plow. In 1843,Deere and Andrus formed a partnership for the manufacture of plows. The partnership was good in 1847,when Deere moved to Moline, Illinois There he established a factory that in time made other farm implements as well as plows and became known throughout the world. The firm was Called in 1868 as Deere and Company.(:
