 December Daily 2011
Today We: Today we decided not to go out for our first Christmas activity of the month. There were severe wind warnings (up to 120 MPH!) and we did not want to chance it. Instead we decided we would do some "Christmas Cleaning" to make room for our Christmas decorations we are putting up this weekend. I sent the boys into their room to play , put some spices on to boil, some Christmas music on the roku, and got down to business The house is not perfect yet, but an hour of cleaning this afternoon has improved it's cleanliness significantly. This year I really want to get all of our exploits down, no matter what. I feel like I have failed in getting our memories down the first five year of my marriage, and that is going to change this Holiday season. Today Ryan was playing with some paper and a marker and I asked him what he was doing. He replied saying he was making "Christmas Coupons". Apparently you give them to Santa or Jesus and they give you a present! What a clever child. I think my earliest holiday memory is when we were in Alabama I think. We went to visit a place that had reindeer and I got to feed them. I remember asking where Rudolph was, since none of them had red noses! I remember my dad telling me that Rudolph was out watching to make sure all the kids were being good for Santa. | 1st | December
Today We: Today our outing was canceled once again, this time due to uncooperative children and a tired mommy. Instead of going out we stayed home and made Christmas cookies! Ryan loves to bake, so he was ecstatic to make cookies! We made snickerdoodles, but I ran out of sugar to roll them in. They were still good though! I remember one year my Aunt Lois visited us around Christmas time and boy was that a treat! She was constantly baking something or making chocloates of some type! My very favorite were her truffles! She showed me how to make them, and I remember her telling me I was perfect for making truffles because I had cold hands. To this day I associate Truffles with Christmas. We also worked on some crafty things. Ryan made some "Snow Figs" as he calls them. You might better know them as snowflakes! I worked on a journal that is going to accomany my project life that I plan to start on the 1st of January. Both projects turned out great. I love that Ryan has an interest in arts and crafts, it's so enjoyable to see him exploring his artistic side! Just a chip off the old block! | December | 2nd
Today We: Today was another stay home day. Dominic was too tired for us all to go out as a family. I was a bit disappointed, but we made the best of it! We busted out some card and board games and had a family game night. It was so cute seeing the boys playing with the train pieces for Ticket to Ride, and especially playing with the "Dexter and Alvin" monster expansion pieces! I love the Joy I have seen on Ryan's face every night as the sun has gone down. He runs to the window and looks out at all the pretty Christmas lights in the courtyard. Today we rearranged the furniture a bit to make room for our Christmas tree and he couldn't get up high enough to see through the window. He was so sad! He even tried to climb up the wall spiderman style! Eventually Jackson pulled over a table and the two of them climbed on top of it to gaze upon the Christmas lights. It was so cute to see the two of them working together to enjoy the lights. | 3rd | December
Today We: Today was a bit of a rough day for me. I have been stuck in the house a lot lately due to the weather and was looking forward to getting out of the house for a bit today. We planned on going up to Red Butte Gardens at the University of Utah. They were having a free day and I had never been, so I was really excited. We got all ready to go and it started snowing. :( I was so disappointed! We made some cake and frosting instead, and got the house more cleaned up. It wasn't as fun as going out as a family, but at least we got some productive things done. | December | 4th
Today We: Today was kind of a boring day. The boys and I made some more snowflakes to put up in the window, and we watched a bunch of Christmas shows on the Roku. Jackson was feeling sick so there was a lot of cuddle time, and a lot of fighting. The poor kid was throwing up and miserable. I felt so bad for him! It is hard as a parent to see your child sick and not be able to help them. :( Jackson has also taken a big step today! He has gone potty in the potty 3 times! I am so proud of him! I'm hoping by the end of the month he will be totally potty trained and we will not have to buy diapers in 2012! That is such a happy thought! I also happened to score some advanced screening passes to a movie called "For Christmas We Bought A Zoo" It doesn't come out until Christmas Day, but we managed to get passes for this Thursday morning! And even better, Dominic doesn't have class so the whole family will be able to go! I sure am glad he will get to go with us to the movie, it looks like it will be super cute! | 5th | December
Today We: Today was a rough day. We had planned for Dominic to be able to sell back his books from this semester yesterday, but it turned out that the textbook buy back doesn't start until Friday. This put us in somewhat of a bind, as we had been counting on that money to feed us for the rest of the week until payday came. We had next to nothing in the house. Not even sugar for the yeast to eat to make bread. :( I was feeling pretty solidly done with my crappy financial woes. A dear friend of ours showed up with an early Christmas present of a $20 Smith's gift card. I can not say how grateful I am for it! It's not much, but it will get us through to Friday when we get our Paycheck and the money from the textbooks. The boys we super cute today as well. They got out some Christmas books and were "reading" them to each other. I sure love when they play together nicely! Ryan is so excited for Christmas! He keeps telling me that it is going to be the best Christmas ever! I sure hope he is right! | 6th | December
Today I wasn't feeling on top of the world. I was running a 102.6 degree temperature, and had chills. The boys were being menaces, a bit more hyperactive than I could handle while feeling under the weather. Dominic called in sick to work and came home to help out with the boys and do a little cleaning. It sure was nice to have him home in the middle of the week, though I am sure I won't feel as happy when our paycheck comes and we are out of the money that day. I wish I could say we did a lot of fun things while he was home, but mostly I sat around and rested.
Today We: Today we started our day off earlier than usual and headed out to the Gateway Mall for a screening of "We Bought a Zoo". The boys were not very happy about it, since it was so early and were a bit cranky. While we waited to be let into the theatre for the movie Ryan got angry because we didn't have ,money for popcorn. A lady overheard him sulking and a few minutes later she came over with two big bags of popcorn, one for each of my cutie pies! They were so excited! She told us Merry Christmas and offered to refill them later when they ate all the popcorn! I was so grateful that someone was willing to give.
