1: Rock n Roll is a form of American popular music that evolved in the 1950's out of Rhythm and Blues, Country, Jazz, Gospel, and Pop.

2: Alan Freed was a radio disc jockey who played rhythm and blues. He promoted new music called Rock n Roll that gained the attention of both black and whites.

3: Richard Penniman also known as "Little Richard", was a famous musician who became one of the many faces of Rock n Roll

4: CHUCK BERRY-"The father of Rock n Roll" was known for his entertaining performances and his use of facial expressions and gestures.

5: Bill Haley and his Comets were best known for their song "Rock around the Clock."

7: E | Elvis Presley "King of Rock and Roll"

8: Presley became the face of Rock n Roll and his live appearances were extremely popular. Over forty of his records sold over one million copies. For instance, "HeartBreak Hotel", "Hound Dog" and "All Shook Up"

9: *Elvis' provocative dancing captivated teens across the county. *Many adults hated this new style of music and dance because they believed it would lead to teenager rebellion.

10: *Girls fell in love with him instantly and boys tried to be like him.

11: Willie mae "Big Mama" thorton was the first artist to record hounddog.

12: JAZZ!

13: These jazzy artists represented African Americans in a new style of music characterized by the use of improvisation called Jazz.


15: is an American musical variety show that featured teenagers dancing to performances by the top artists of the time.

17: Despite the huge controversy that Rock and Roll first received, it became hugely popular and people started to realize that this music was here to stay. Blacks and whites alike contributed to the growth of the genre and Rock and Roll became the music of America.
