S: My Wichita Garden
FC: My Wichita Garden
My Wichita Garden designed, grown and loved by Lynn Denzin 1451 Glenwood Court Wichita, Kansas 2002 - 2006
We moved to Wichita, Kansas from Yorkshire England, where I had fallen in love with the English countryside. I wanted to recreate that cottage garden look in my new backyard.
 Live , | Laugh , | Garden .
So we planted a lot of trees. | (and a lot of memories.) | However, I didn't realize we had moved to the open prairie where the sun and the drying winds made the summer heat so extreme. Most of all, we needed some shade. . . . So we planted a lot of trees.
lilly | cat mint | weigela | black eyed susan vine
. . . and then a little bit of everything else. I came to love the nasturtiums and the Boston ivy. But most of all, I loved the hyacinth bean plant that grew like a jungle up our deck and produced so many beautiful bean pods by summer's end.
Lablab purpureus (Hyacinth Bean) Just a few beans thrown on the ground and several weeks later it is the perfect flowering vine.
 of an icy winter
 and despite the extreme temperatures
my garden was finally blooming into the English cottage sanctuary I had imagined four years earlier. At last I had my special place where I could retreat with a cup of coffee and relax.
 and then we moved away.
