22: The Unexpected Cancer Journey In October, 2007, Den was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Cancer on his tonsil. On Nov. 20, Den had his tonsil removed along with 40-50 lymph nodes. A week later he came home to recuperate. Then on January 1, 2008, he took up residence at his new home, the Hope Lodge in Rochester, MN, for the next six weeks. These are pictures of his journey and many of the friends he made while taking treatment. We were so excited to be going home with a good report. After a bout with blood clots that went through his heart, things settled down and we had a relatively good year. What a disappointment when the cancer returned the summer of 2009. Den endured many, many chemotherapy and radiation treatments in Sioux City, but was unable to win the battle and passed away on February 4, 2010. We miss him so very, very much but also Praise God for the 63 years we had him in our lives. Den is now living a wonderful new life with his Savior, Jesus Christ and we look forward to our reunion with him one day.

Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low positions. Do not be conceited. Romans 12:9-16
