FC: Our 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration | Leap | Year | Wedding | February 29, 1964 | Twenty-fifth | Fiftieth

Inaugural Celebration | ---the anniversary of our first date. | On Saturday, November 12, 1963, our first date was at a Rice-Texas A&M football game at Rice Stadium where we sat in seats 98 & 99 as seen in a copy of our original ticket stubs. On Saturday, November 12, 2014, we reenacted this date. We didn't have the same seats for the game since they didn't use that part of the stadium, but we were able to get our picture sitting in those exact same seats. Unfortunately, Rice wasn't playing the Aggie's but it was a nice start to our celebration. How funny that Becky's graduation class from Rice was celebrating their 25th anniversary at that game. Of course, we turned to each other and said "who would have ever thought, back then-----"!!!!!! | Becky's class ('88) presents their donation check to the Alumni Association.

Second Celebration | ---our Engagement Anniversary, December 16, 1963 | We became engaged on December 16 1963. To remember this occasion we took a Caribbean Cruise to relax and enjoy visiting Cozumel, Roatan and Belize. We shared a bottle of Champaign | with our tablemates who gave us a warm toast. We enjoyed the food and margaritas in Cozumel, the beach and swimming in Roatan and the Mayan Ruins in Belize.

Anniversary Eve | ---the day before our big day, February 28. | The day before our special day, we met the kids downtown Houston for a little reminiscing where it all started. We first met for lunch in a small Bistro in the old Texas State Hotel located on the back side of the building where we met. In 1963, we were both working for American General Insurance Company in the Rusk Building at the corner of Main & Rusk. After lunch, we all walked to the corner and stared up at the corner window of the third floor where we met. The building | now houses another company but we were able to go in the lobby and up to the third floor. The building has been renovated and is totally different now, but we enjoyed the visit anyway. Afterwards, we enjoyed walking around on the streets and in the tunnels. We also visited the old original Bank of Commerce (where we banked) and it is still as beautiful today as it was then.

The Anniversary | ---Rainbow Lodge | No February 29th this year so our special day was on March 1. We had a beautiful dinner in the log cabin restaurant, Rainbow Lodge. George had pre-ordered the red roses for our table exactly the same color of the Happiness Roses that I carried in my wedding bouquet. We had a 6 course dinner with a variety of wild game---exquisite! | Our dessert!

HAWAII | The celebration continues in

 THE BIG ISLAND---PARADISE

On Saturday, March 15, the Schaeffer Clan flew to the Big Island of Hawaii to spend a week celebrating our anniversary. We rented a very relaxing and nice home on a lava beach in Puako in the Kona area. We immediately loved our beautiful house, under mango, lime and palm trees and couldn't imagine leaving here after a week. Our very first view from the Lanai was a Humpback Whale jumping just a few hundred yards out in the most gorgeous clear, blue/green water of the Pacific. Relax time was here!

Outdoor shower | Our room which Manon and Nicolas decorated for us! | Around our Hawaiian Home

Manon and Aunt C picking mangoes and limes from our front yard. | Loved it all!

Now let's see---what do we want to do here all week? | Shh---Family at Rest!

 Exploring Our Lava Rock Beach

Ocean Life | Butterfish | Moorish Idol | Big Island Green Turtles | Needle-Spined Urchin

 Spotted Boxfish | Cornetfish

Today, we took a field trip driving across the island and down the eastern coast just north of Hilo. We left the Kona Area in bright, warm sunshine and ended up in a cool, damp rainforest. Hiking the circle tour around the falls was great fun and very pretty.

AKAKA FALLS VILLAGE | After leaving Akaka Falls we drove through a small area of shoppes and the "kids" just insisted that we stop for ice cream and maybe a little shopping.

KOLEKOLE BEACH PARK | These falls are down the same stream, Kolekole Stream, from Akaka Falls where it empties into the Pacific Ocean.

 Luau | Sunset | at

Spotlight on us for our special celebration!

Hawaii Volcanoes | 'Aina a ke akua i noho ai - Land where the goddess dwells.

Last Night---Saying Goodnight to Paradise & Happy 50th Anniversary!

Thank you, kids, for a wonderful, beautiful and memorable anniversary! Poppy & Grammy

 Recapturing the fun!

 Rainbows, Sunsets, & Dining

 Strolling down the river!

Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii | I learn to hula! | Our favorite place to shop---one on every corner! | Our 11th floor hotel room! | The kids flew home from The Big Island and we headed for Oahu for a few days. We had a great time of strolling the crowed streets of Waikiki, walking and watching all the surfers on the beach. Our hotel was a great location with a view of the mountains. We loved the ABC Stores which had everything a tourist would want from food to souvenirs. We couldn't believe all the people and the prices were $$$$!

Our main reason for wanting to visit Oahu was to pay our respects to those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The national monument is truly an inspiring walk back in time. Especially moving was the walk over the sunken ship the USS Arizona which is now a tomb for over 900 sailors who remain within. We had read that oil is still seeping from the ship which we were doubtful but we actually saw it on top of the water. | Pearl Harbor National Monument | Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii

 Moments in Time

Circle Tour of the Island of Oahu | Dole Pineapple Plantation | Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree | The state flower of Hawaii, the yellow Hibiscus. | The Taro Plant. Root used to make Poi and the leaves used to wrap a pig for pit roasting. | We had a great day of making the grand circle around Oahu on a Gray Line Bus Tour. We drove by beautiful landscapes and ocean views. The Dole Pineapple Plantation was nice and the pineapple ice cream was sinful! Seeing many of the places where movies and TV shows were filmed was fun. | This | is | our | little | secret!!!
