BC: Made with love and gratitude- Rachelle 12-13
FC: Vinalhaven, Maine | Summer 2013 | Rachelle & Rob's 10th Anniversary
Sometimes life just hands you a wondrous adventure. A window of chance opens to another world full of new sights, sounds and possibilities. These are the moments that make life extraordinary. The moments when you grab hold of those you love and jump in with an open heart. These are the moments that allow us to experience a life lived with passion and to create bonds of love that last a lifetime.
July 20-27: A week to remember. In addition to celebrating our anniversary we also wanted to share our love of Maine, our passion for cooking and above all, take this rare chance to bring our families together.
The Long Trip: The Vinalhaven Ferry was the last of a long series of planes, busses and cars needed to transport us all to the island as we gathered from Florida, California and Maine.
The House: As an anniversary gift from the Longman family, we were given a week's stay at their home at 14 Chestnut Street on Carver's Pond, just steps away from the main street with shops, restaurants and the shimmering harbor. Stylish, comfortable and stocked with everything imaginable from kayaks to lobster pots, their house was more than we could have asked for. It was a gift beyond measure.
From the ocean and the farm to our table, the island was full of local, organic food, from the docks, cafés and markets. | We met the farmers from Spark Plug Farm as we shopped at the farmer's market located just one block away.
Our Tenth Anniversary Party With a house full of passionate cooks and a phenomenal gourmet kitchen, food was a central theme. Here we prepped lobster, kale and ginger cake for the party. Aunt Sue supplied the world's best Whoopie Pies. | Anniversary Party Sunday, July 21st
We brought along our beloved David Peck to meet his extended family.
Laughter, Stories, Songs and Magic. There are no words to describe the joy of watching, listening and laughing as our family members wove new threads into the fabric of each other's lives. It was unforgettable.
Brilliant story-teller and family historian, Michael Parent brought our family story to life through song and magic. Octavian found a new hero.
BEAUTIFUL COLUMNS | Our Family from Florida: Noah, Yale, Regan and Ellen went on a long journey to meet the French Canadians.
PIAZZA SAN MARCO | Kayak Adventure: With expert instruction from Mateo, Noah took to kayaking like a pro!
 Water-Front Fun
Octavian's boundless joy was contagious. | "Hey, what's your name?" "My name is David." "Um, Davin, I like you." | After falling with a thud off the arm of the couch. "Oh! Um, I'm OK!" | He kissed Rob from head to toe. He kissed Totoro on the TV. He hugged and kissed us all!
While on a "kissing-spree", Octavian kissed my camera, fogging the lens but for one jeweled blue eye.
We picked our own lobsters fresh from the tanks in the harbor. We ate the traditional "Maine Lobster Feast" with Jeannie teaching us how to eat lobster like a native.
Leap of Faith! If Regan and Noah were brave enough to learn to swim in a quarry like us Maine natives, I had to be brave enough to leap off the rocks, right? Right! We had a ball. The water was warmed by the granite walls cut decades ago to build massive buildings in New York City.
Even though we were having a blast with the family, Rob and I made sure to steal away and revel in the beauty of the coast and in the miracle of our marriage. Together we have a life filled with gratitude, appreciation, respect, humor, creativity and fun. To me, it is a love story for the ages.
"More than this. You know there's nothing, More than this. Tell me one thing, More than this." - Brian Ferry
