FC: Chains by: Laurie Halse Anderson | Presentation by: Charlie Gay Period 4

In the book Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, there are many key characters but I will describe 3 of them. Here they are: Isabel, Madam Lockton and Ruth | Isabel: A young girl born into slavery is separated from her Mom and Dad for basically her entire life Ruth: Isabel's little sister another little slave girl who was sold along with Isabel but then Mrs. Lockton sold her to another family or so Isabel thought.... | Madam Lockton: A wretched old hag who has done everything to Isabel from throwing bowls to selling sibilings. She is not a woman you would want to mess with.

 Internal and External conflicts

Internal Conflict: When Isabel was decideing to run away, and risk her life for Ruth and curzon or stay still and play it safe. | External Conflict: Ruth was ripped from Isabel's hands and sent to another family and she couldn't stop Madam Lockton from selling Ruth or could she.... | In these conflicts there were winners. For the internal conflict Isabel was the winner because she made it out of slavery alive with Ruth and Curzon. But for the external conflict Madam Lockton was the winner because she sold Ruth and deprived Isabel from all family and made her weaker.

Theme: I think there were a few strong themes in this book but I will pick just 1 of them. Family is everything. This is the them of the book because Isabel never gave up on her thought of getting back to her family and because she loved them so much eventually brought them back together. Also her family meant everything to her she could not be stopped by anything to get back to her family and that proves that you can't do much without the the help of your family.

My Favorite Scene | My Favorite Scene from the book Chains by: Laurie Halse Anderson was when Isabel called Madam Lockton a wretched Cow. Isabel stood up for herself. After Isabel has lost it with being treated like total poop (which she should be, but she didn't like it at all) she went up to Madam Lockton and just spewed it all out. | I choose the scene because this was a time when Isabel finally stood up for her self and gave the her oppinion on what she thinks is right.

Summary | Madam Lockton, Their new slave owner, is horrid. Madam Lockton ended up selling Ruth to another owner. Now they are seperated, and the whole family is torn apart. Isabel is looking for anyway to escape and find Ruth. Experience all these hard ships and more in Chains. | Isabel a slave that has been sent to a new owner along her sister, Ruth. both parents are gone, Mom has passed away and dad is not in touch with them anymore.
