FC: Paul's Big Adventure | A story of adventures in Geography

One day, Paul the Puck was watching the Edmonton Oilers play the Calgary Flames in Edmonton. As the game went on, Paul realized he didn't even know where Calgary was. He just knew it was in Canada. So he asked Wayne Gretzky, who was sitting beside him. Wayne told him, "Would you like to know the absolute location or the relative location?" "What does that mean?" Paul asked. "Well, an absolute location uses longitude and latitude, for example Calgary's is 51 1 114 1. A relative location is using time or distance to measure how far or close it is, Calgary is about 4 and a half hours from here." "Wow thats pretty cool! Thanks Wayne!" "Anytime Paul",Wayne replied.

The next day, while Paul was flying home back to Toronto, somebody asked him if he liked Toronto, he replied "Toronto is a great place!" The stranger replied, "Well what do like best about it? Physical or human characteristics?" "Human characteristics?" Paul asked. The man answered "Yes, a place is made up of both kids of characteristics, Physical like mountains and rivers or human like buildings and roads." "Then my favorite physical characteristic is Lake Ontario and the human one is the Air Canada Centre!" " Thats pretty cool Paul!" "Thanks!", Paul replied

Back in Toronto, Paul saw some new buildings starting to rise into the air. He wondered what they were for and why they were in that spot. He asked his friend Sam the Squirrel what they were there for. Sam told him that it was in that location so if the Lake ever overflowed it would be harder to reach. So they couldn't interact with one another. Thats called human/environmental interaction. Its how humans and the environment interact with one another.

While watching the city, Paul wondered about all the movement, like who was going where, what were they riding, and where are they going. These are all questions about movement. Movement is the Shipping of goods, transportation of people, and the movement of ideas throughout the world.

The 5th and final theme of geography is Region, there are all types of regions. Cultural regions, religion regions, and economic regions. There are many more than just these 3 regions. The exact geographic definition of a region is an area that displays a coherent unity in terms of the government, language, or possibly the landform or situation. They are human made and can be analyzed by using maps and graphs.
