FC: Petria's Loft A Celebration of Galveston Plank Art

Petria O'Reilly | About the Artist: Petria O'Reilly is a talented artist who painted only occasionally for friends and family. She was especially adept at large wall murals of all kinds. When moving to to the island of Galveston, Texas in 2010, a mentor suggested she try painting various seascape scenes on old, recovered or reclaimed planks, boards and doors. Friends named it "plank art" - and a new career was born. Petria now lives and paints professionally in Galveston, and her work is shown and sold in various local galleries. | Front cover:"Pelican With an Attitude"

This book is only a sampling of Petria O'Reilly's works, and will sometimes depict several stages of an unfinished painting, or several revisions of a completed one. You will also find close-ups of several of the more detailed paintings, as well as some whimsical holiday art, and furniture and signs Petria has been commissioned to paint. | "The Count" | "Mom and Chick"

Petria takes hundreds of photographs of birds found in Galveston harbor, along the wharves and on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico beaches, and researches other photographs, so she can accurately capture the beauty, stance and demeanor of these stately (and not-so-stately) creatures.

"You Talkin' to Me?" | "I've Got My Eye on You"

"Early Bird" | "In Yo Face" | "Not Feelin' Crabby, Today" | "Peepalone"

 "Curious Crane"

 "Peeps-on-the-Beach"

Some of the plank art can be quite large - this painting is over eight feet long and we've included some close-ups. Note the one at the top is in the beginning stages of completion.

"Mermaid" is another example of numerous revisions and touch-ups until the artist found the right combination. Again, some close-ups are included so the detail can be seen

 Miniatures

Whimsical and holidays - Halloween, Mardi Gras and Fourth of July

 Custom-painted Furniture

"Fish Under Glass Some art is created by mistake - for example: an accident led to this beautiful creation. If you look closely, you will notice that the fish scales and seaweed have an unusual texture. This painting, - as well as paintings on pages 20 and 21 - were finished with broken safety glass, resulting in a three-dimensional surface.
