1: Cricket Lawson In my early 20’s my work was influenced by my desire to preserve life’s special moments. As a single mother of three sons, I was kept very busy working and longed to live in the moments I was missing such as, my children’s school plays, sports or just reading a book together. I began to photograph time I spent with my children, family and friends, as my times with them were always to short. When I had the time to sit back, I would enjoy my photographs and be reminded that every moment in life is too precious to miss. For this reason I document moments in time, from a sunset on a beach, to the last moments of a loved one’s life. Making photographs can have the effect of simply making life stand still, but it can also impact a viewer by taking their breath away with each glance. It is my desire for my work to impact viewers, if only for a moment. One specific subject matter is not the driving force of my work. I make portraits, action photos, macro photos, and landscapes. Taking a photograph in the right location, the right lighting, and in right moment is what makes my work stand out. At times I use props, costumes, and special lighting, but my best photographic strategy is making images of people who do not even know I am there. Growing as a photographer, I came to realize that the only thing growing was the number of photographs I accumulated all over the house. My desire to make better photographs drove me to educate myself in professional photographic techniques, which has enabled me to enhance my work, learning new methods that truly make my photographs illuminating.
