FC: THE REAL WORLD

Her advice for students that will be entering the 9th grade next year is to “study, study, and study! Because it does not matter how much homework you do, the test are what counts. The tests are what makes you pass or fail.” | Eliza Adams is a student at Oxford High school. She enjoys reading, listening to music and traveling. When it comes to writing, she likes to write about her family, her town, and the all about her life and the things she loves. Eliza finds the most challenging part of writing to be figuring out what to write about, she says, “there are so many options of what to write about its hard to choose!” When Eliza gets older, she hopes to become a cosmetologist and someday have her own salon. | About The Author

After high school, I plan to go to Spring Hill University in Mobile, Alabama. I plan to major in Business and finance so that I may have my own business someday. | I chose Spring Hill college not only because my three sisters ahead of my have, but also because it has a beautiful campus and gives me everything I need. | The average population of Spring Hill is 1,328 students. It will cost around $42,246 to attend there. But I plan to get an academic scholarship to help pay. | Education

For my profession, I chose to become a Cosmetologist. The main reason f chose this was because I think it is important to have pride in your appearance and that everyone should feel pretty and confident about themselves. For this job, I will be moving to Los Angeles, California. The average pay for a worker is $22,700. But, for my ultimate goal is to have my own salon so that I can make more. As a cosmetologist, we have to dye, cut, and style hair. also we must be able to do nail care and skin care while keeping a sanitary environment. And of course, as my back up plan I chose to become a teacher. | Profession

I chose Los Angeles mainly because I love the weather and all the opportunities that are out there. There are so many tourist attractions, such as the Walk of Fame, Disney Land, Universal Studios and so many more! Some bad things about LA is that it has frequent earthquakes. Also that the population is 10,017,068 and there are 10,000 more girls than guys. And then there's the fact that the city crime rate is pretty high. | Murder – 2 per 100,00 Burglary – 383 per 100,00 Theft – 1,911 per 100,00 Auto Theft – 199 per 100,00 | City Overview

Los Angeles is a very interesting place, so here are some interesting things you may not have known before. Los Angeles' neighboring cities are: San Francisco, San Diego, and Las Vegas which are as amazing as Los Angeles! | LA is known for it's amazing entertainment. The biggest entertainment place for them is Walt Disney. But also DIRECT TV is a major place for them also. Los Angeles has also become a huge manufacturing city for trade and culture. One of the main things I love about LA is its amazing weather, it barely gets below 50 in the winter, and the average summer temperature is 84 degrees! The income per capita is $28,111. Los Angeles is a wonderful place filled with many opportunities.

 Standard | Living

After I graduate college, I will be living in 8840 Lindell Avenue, Downey, CA 90240 – Village Apartments. It will cost $1,000 a month with a security deposit of $300. I picked this apartment mostly because it was cheap and it was in a pretty good area.

 House Hold Items

The apartment I chose came equip with absolutely nothing. Therefore, I had to purchase many things at the cheapest I could find them. My wonderful parents, gifted me with a TV, a stove, and a refrigerator. Also the gift of $2,000 helped me pay for everything and have $1,008.43 left over to pay for other expenses. The majority of my money went to furniture and appliances at a cost of $903.98. My major priority when looking for house hold items was to find the cheapest thing because I am kind of poor. I had to do without an ironing board and a night stand. Also I could not afford a bed and a couch, so instead I bought a futon so that I could have both.

Transportation | As I went through my project and saw that I was a little on the poor side, I realized I would not be able to afford a car. Therefore I would be riding a bus. The bus I will ride everyday is the Bravo bus. It costs $5 per day so for a month total it will be $150.

 Grocery List

My total grocery bill for this month was $125. All my items were categorized by: Cleaning, Beverages, Hygiene, Food and Other. The majority of my money was spent in the food category because I most likely will not go out and eat a whole lot. I definitely believe that my grocery list will be sufficient because most of my money was spent in that category. Doing this part of the project taught me that grocery shopping can be expensive and you should only buy what you need.

 Entertainment & Miscellaneous Items

After paying all my monthly bills, I have $193.43. I did not really have lots of money to spend for entertainment, but luckily, walking on the Walk of Fame is free and Saint Monica Pier is not too pricey.

 Budget Reflection

Most of my money went towards my home because of my apartment giving me absolutely nothing. The least section that I put money into was my savings. Mainly because I have almost no money to save.
