BC: Please leave this booklet in your cabin. We made a few extra ones that are availabel for $ 25

FC: From the "Hasenbühl" house in Zug / Switzerland | to the "Rhine Falls" cabin @Barons CreekSide

The history of the Rhine Falls Cabin: On a Wednesday back in 2009, I flew back from Texas to my hometown Zug in Switzerland for my annual visit there. On the plane they handed me a newspaper where I read that a house in my childhood neighborhood -built 1825- would be demolished to make room for a new Villa. Immediately I contacted the owners and they agreed to stop the demolition for 4 ! hours to allow us to salvage what we possibly could. How shocked was I when I arrived at the house (pouring rain)to see that half of it was already gone, most of all the staircase. We managed to save lots of wonderful material that we shipped here and incorporated it all in the Rhine Falls cabin

The Hasenbühl built sometime in 1700 before its demolition in 2009

What it looked like when we arrived at the house 3 days after returning from the US: Half the house gone and no more stair case

We had to acces the 3 floors with a ladder. The window that is carried away is the kitchen window in the Rhine Falls cabin now The door behind the ladder is now the bathroom door

Lets see what's up there ?

A wonderful armoire ! Rather difficult to get it down though ... is the one now in your bedroom

 Look at the wallpaper

We really could not get the piano down the ladder :(

..or the stove....but at lest the bottles which you now find on top of your kitchen armoire

 The study

Pirmin Uttinger was the last owner of the Hasenbüehl house. Born in 1913, he was a rather unique man. He passed away in 2004 and he never ever owned a watch nor a telephone. He was very intelligent, studied forestry at the university, and would only leave his property on a horse or bicycle. In his later years he even decided to cut the electric power to his house. He was most famous for giving speeches as the general assemblies of banks as he would buy one share of several banks so he could stand up and ask for lower interest rates and cutting bonuses of the management :)

Salvaging fine siding from the bedrooms....its now inside your bathroom at the Rhine Falls cabin! | Just don't tell me that I kind of look like Pirmin :)

Hard work but all worth it .

The Hasenbüehl lives on as the Rhine Falls at Barons CreekSide

Location of the Hasenbühl haus in Zug (arrow)

The Rhine Falls cabin got its name from the largest waterfalls in Switzerland called the Rhine falls. The cabin -sitting behind the waterfall at Barons CreekSide- inspired the name
