S: THE LONGEST SUMMER VACATION EVER, 2011
On April 27th, we knew the tornado was coming....and that it would be bad. We just didn't know it would come within two blocks of Melissa and it would be an EF-5 with maximum winds of 287 mph, the worst ever in Tuscaloosa!! The city was devastated - with homes and businesses leveled, lives lost and most of the city in darkness. Students had two days left of classes with final exams starting the next week. Because of the wreckage and chaos, the University of Alabama cancelled finals and urged students to go home.
Just a few days after finals were cancelled, Meredith, Bebo, Marc and I were scheduled to leave for the International Car Wash Association Convention in Las Vegas. We felt so blessed that Melissa was able to come with us, even though her plane ticket cost MORE than Marc and mine put together! What a wonderful way to celebrate her being safe and finishing up second semester Nursing School with 3.45 overall! LAS VEGAS BABY!!!
Melissa needed a new computer to finish up her Nursing School so we bought her a 13 inch MacBook Pro at the Apple Store for $1,655. This includes all the software she needed and a 3 year guarantee! I mention the price since I'm hopeful that computers will get CHEAPER over the coming years... PLUS Melissa is a lover of HEELS so when Kohl's sent me a 30% off coupon, what could we do?
This page is dedicated to our special dogs... Zoey is 6, Sophie and Molly are 3 and beautiful Bella Rowlen is almost one. Zoey lives with Melissa in Tuscaloosa and she is her "Precious Baby Angel."
This summer was for traveling! Melissa went out-of-town nine separate times during her three and a half month long summer vacation. One of her most anticipated trips was her flight to visit her best friend, Brittany Davis, who goes to Oklahoma City University. While there, Melissa found two hundred dollar bills - she is one lucky girl! Lucky in Vegas and lucky in Oklahoma City!! PLUS she was able to be there to help Brittany celebrate her 21st Birthday!
Summer was very busy in Birmingham too. Paige turned two, the boys ended baseball and started football, there were lots of visits to the pool and always something to do!!
Then there were the nights taking care of the Allen's kids and their weird dog (earning $700!), giving blood, a flat tire, visits with friends, wonderful times just at home and Michael's, of course.
Melissa's longest trip this summer was to our SECWA Trade Show in Orlando, Florida at the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort. She had her own hotel room for the first time and we were gone 8 days! It was definitely work but lots of fun too! We ate anywhere we wanted... like Texas De Brazil (all you can eat MEAT), and Schula's Steak Restaurant right in the hotel, PLUS room service! It was especially fun for me to have wonderful quality time with MY GIRLS!!!
On our way home, we stayed in St. Augustine while we went to Jacksonville to visit Ruth and Richard Salter. We enjoyed seeing the city plus wanted to go on a GHOST TOUR in America's most haunted city! We scheduled the one in a GHOST HEARSE with a First Response Paranormal Investigator!!
Since four of the nine trips Melissa took this summer were to Nashville, it seems only right to dedicate a couple of pages to Eddie Esbach. Melissa met Eddie at UA about two years ago, he celebrated her 21st birthday in Vegas with us and she went to Nashville for his 25th birthday this summer!
Ahhh, what a wonderful summer! And so much fun to make this book for you... Know that you are always, TOTALLY loved and that you can do ANYTHING. You have it all and we are so blessed to have you. Whatever life throws at you, you will be fine because you are a WILSON WOMAN and you are STRONG!! "The only disability in life is a bad attitude."~ Scott Hamilton. And you have a great attitude...chin up; SMILE and you "GOT THIS." Go for your dreams, we're always there with you! LOVE ALWAYS, YOUR MOM AND ROLL TIDE!!!!
