FC: A Heroic Journey | A Pictorial Of Her Struggles & Triumphs Over Breast Cancer | Theresa Lana | Photography For The Cure | TM
1: " | This pictorial book was created to display the stages of my breast cancer experiences. During the process I felt that there was a void of photographic resources exhibiting the results from breast cancer treatments. Although I did extensive reading on my condition, I could not find images of post-op patient's surgeries which were age appropriate and non-threatening, both physically and emotionally. Most photographic images were stark, intimidating, medicinal, before and after shots which did not encourage me as a newly married young woman, what will happen to my self- image, my sexuality, my sensuality, my future??? My hope is to empower breast cancer patients and their loved ones by sharing this composition of intimate photographs. May this pictorial encourage you to make the decisions which will set you free from the fear, anxiety and negative thoughts sometimes associated with a breast cancer diagnosis and the treatments aftermath. Regardless of your treatment choices remember you always will be beautiful, sexy and worthy of life's blessings. One day at a time, brick by brick, you too shall survive, conquer and thrive. Love and Light, Theresa
2: PHOTOGRAPHY FOR THE CURE | In December 2004 I was given a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis which marked the beginning of a profound journey that changed the way I view the world, life, myself and others.... During this remarkable journey towards survivorship, my treatment for a 5 cm. ductal carcinoma tumor included, 8 neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatments, ACT (Adriamycin, Cytoxan and Taxol) over a 16 week period. I have had several surgeries including a left breast Mastectomy with 14 lymph nodes removed, reconstruction surgery, 35 radiation treatments in 3 fields (breast, lymph and chest wall), 4 left axilla scar tissue revisions. Continued treatments include occupational, physical, lymphedema and hormonal therapy. Staying positive is challenging. However, with the support of family, friends a team of inspiring doctors and my team "The T-Birds" I can focus on the gift of life. Through this circle of support I have been able to give back to other cancer survivors and their families.... | TM
