FC: The Big Race
It was a hot muggy day at track try outs, hot wind blowing in my face sweat rolling down my cheeks. Track season has finally started! I run my fastest to try to impress the coach showing her I haven't lost my love for running. Coach Debbie called us in and said the team names will be posted on the board in the hallway at 3:30 tomorrow. I was sure I would make the team! I always made the team.
The next day came and when it hit 3:30 I ran to look at the team names and then all the sudden I saw my name! Nothing can stop me now I made the team and nothing can get in my way now! On they other hand the girls that didn't make it ended up walking away crying.
It was our first meet and I was running the 100 meter dash and the hurdles. It got to the hurdles and once they yelled go I was off I was running faster then ever, and well maybe a little too fast I was jumping over those hurdles like it was nothing then all of a sudden BAMB my ankle got caught and I fell face first arms swinging everywhere then once I hit the ground I heard a crack.. My ankle was broken, what about track! Am I going to have to change my dream. Am I going to be able to still run. I didn't cry or scream out for help my Coach just yelled at me to get back up. When I got up I fell back down again the 2nd time I was grabbing one of the hurdles for support I hopped my way to where the coach was she called the trainer over to get ice and to wrap my ankle.
My mom finally took me to see the doctor. I was having a hard time trying to pay attention his breath smelt like he hasn't brushed his teeth in weeks! He also had a mole on the side of his face the size of quarter. I tried to snap back into reality and concentrate on whats happened to my ankle then i hear him say I can't walk on it for another 6 weeks! Track season will almost be over by then!
He asked me what color cast i wanted and i picked my favorite color which is Green!:) He put the cast on and it was really hard and it took a while to get used to. He still didn't even want me walking on it so he gave me crutches he said i could design them however i want to so before me and my mom went home we went by the store to get some stuff to design it with.:)
Coach Debbie told me I could still go to the meets so I decided to go and see my competition for when I get back on the team. I never doubted myself but I think my coach didn't believe I could make it back in time. I just couldn't wait to get my running shoes back on.
FINALLY!! I jumped out of bed and hobbled down the stairs shouting to my mom today's the day today's the day! My mom made me my special breakfast i could hear the bacon tingling and popping smell the scrambled eggs and blue berry pancakes. Nothing could go wrong today.
Once we got to the doctors he put a big thing on the counter, at first i was terrified I didn't want that thing anywhere near my ankle! He told me it was safe and wouldn't hurt me and that hes been doing this for years so i decided to trust him. I wanted this cast off so eventually it didn't matter to me what it took to take it off. He picked it up and then just like that the ankle boot was off! He told me to stand up and give it a try at first it felt weird and I stumbled a little at first but then it all became normal. I was ready to run. I thanked the doctor and ran to the car! Once we got home I put on my running shoes and ran to the track, ran a little longer on the track then i ran home. It was amazing i had so much excitement.
The next day I showed Coach Debbie that I can still be in the big meet. She had doubts but I proved myself to her I went to every practice and I worked my hardest. I wasn't about to give up. I couldn't give up track is my life. Coach Debbie said the list for people to be in the Final Meet was going to be put up on Wednesday at 2:30. I was nervous but right when that bell rang i walked slowly and cautiously to the wall. I toned out everyone as i read the list of names. I got to the few names at the bottom and right when i lost all hope there was my name Michelle Bamas. I couldn't help but to scream!
The day has come today's the big race. We got to leave school early for the race. Once we arrived there we did our warm ups and our stretches. The other teams from different schools started to arrive. We were polite and said our hellos and good luck. The race started and I was in the 4th line waiting for the "GO" then we started running I was behind and knew i needed to catch up to them so I started sprinting faster and faster then all the sudden I was in 2nd place and me and the girl next to me where back n' forth from 1st to 2nd then once we got closer to the line I ran as fast as I could. My coach and teammates were hugging me and saying "good job good job!" I won the race!
