BC: My favorite video game system is the Xbox 360. I like it because of its convenience, relatively non expensive features, and its game selection. Some of the games I particularly enjoy are Halo 3 and the Guitar Hero series.
FC: The Evolution of Video Games
The first electronic game system on a television set was invented by Ralph Bauer in 1972. It was the Magnavox Odyssey. It had the nickname of the "Brown Box".
The first wildly popular home console system was the Atari 2600, released in 1977
Atari was the company that truly popularized this play form. The 2600 had games, colorful graphics, and sharper sound than the original systems. Most importantly, players could change games by inserting new cartridges. Kids battled friends in Combat, saved the earth in Space Invaders, outran ghosts in Pac-Man, and had fun with Frogger. Americans soon were spending billions of dollars a year on Atari 2600 products.
Later, a company known as Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) created the animated characters "Mario" and "Luigi" which became well known in the game "Super Mario Bros." This is one of the best selling games ever in the video game history, and made Mario a cultural icon around the world. In 1991, children were able to identify "Mario" more than the legendary "mickey mouse".
During the 1990s video game inventors began experimenting with different media types of gaming. With the addition of the Playstation and its CD game instead of previously used cartridges, gaming entered a new world of storage, convenience, and capability.
With the advancement in technology came the Xbox and the Playstaion 2.
Both of these revolutionized gaming with even more capabilities and graphics. They were able to play music CDs and even DVDs.
In today's day we have video games that are in the most prime condition of capability and graphics. When playing new games like Halo 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and the Wii: Fit, one is overtaken by the game and feels as if they are really there in the game.
A new system called the Wii offers quite a unique perspective to gaming. It offers the player to be "part" of the game by having a hand-held remote that one can use to point at the screen to coordinate ones actions with motion sensors.
There are many extensions or add-ons that the Wii can feature. For instance with Wii: Fit one can use a mat to do yoga or in a shooter game one can use a gun looking attachment on the Wii remote.
