There once was a girl named Sissy. She was an adventurous girl who enjoyed running and riding her new bike.
She is brave for only being in Kindergarten.
Just this week she was recognized by the local police for identifying a criminal involved in an armed robbery.
Underneath her brave exterior lies a shocking fear.
Sissy is afraid of the dark. At night her parents constantly struggle to get her to sleep.
Sissy is so terrified of the dark that in order to sleep, she has to have all the lights on in her room.
She has gotten so used to sleeping with the light on that when her mom goes to shut it off, she cries.
"No, Mom!" Sissy shrieks. "Please don't shut off the lights!"
Sissy's fear has started to grow, and she begins to turn on all the lights in the house to get rid of all the darkness.
"There, now all the lights in the house are on," Sissy mutters to herself.
Sissy's mom sees this is becoming a big problem so she decides to talk to her.
"Sissy, you are too brave to be scared of the dark, you helped the police remember?" her mom says. Sissy soon realizes she can tackle this fear head on.
That night Sissy decides to sleep with the light s on and then turn off one light every night until she can sleep in total darkness.
"Yes!" Sissy exclaims. "I guess I am a brave girl after all!"
