Summary (characters) | Karana is the main character whom is 12 years old and she loves animals. The Aleuts are the Ghalas-at tribes enemy who catch otter. Ulape is Karana's 14 year old sister who likes jewelery and boys. Ramo is Karana's six year old brother who loves to fish. Tutok is a very sweet Aluet girl who becomes friends with Karana when she is the only person on the island. Rantu is a leader of the wild pack of dogs except Karana saves him and he becomes her pet. The wild dogs are Karana's enemies who killed her brother. Rantu-Aru is Rantu's son who Karana takes in after Rantu died. The White Men are the people who took he tribe to a different place but Karana jumped off the ship to stay with her brother. Chowig is Karana's father who got murdered by the Aleuts.

Setting | The Island of the Blue Dolphins every season. It also goes for 18 years. Major Problems and solutions or conclusions First the Aleuts came to the Island to fish otter. The Aleuts didn't repay enough and had only 15 men still alive in the Ghalas-at tribe. Next the white men take the tribe to a different place where their chief was waiting except Ramo was left so Karana jumped over board so she could be with her brother.

Later her brother wanted to go to the canoes on the south end of the island. She couldn't find him so she went on the trail. She found him lying on the ground with the wild dogs around him and a giant bite mark on his neck. Karana made a house for herself so she wouldn't have to worry about the wild dogs killing her. She also built a fence around her house made of whale ribs. After that, she lit the cave on fire and shot Rantu in the leg. Later she found him again and brought him to her house and he behaved himself and became her dog. A couple years later they had still been looking for the white men's ship, except saw the Aleuts again. She then took Ranto down to the cave they had stored food in waiting for the time the Aleuts came again.

Later when the Aleuts were fishing Karana saw a girl who appeared older than Karana, that girl was hiding in the brush spying on her. They became friends and that girls name was Tutok. Tutok gave Karana a necklace and gave her something back in return. The Aleuts left and Rantu soon died. Karana soon found Rantu's son who had the same bright yellow eyes as him. Karana also took him in as a pet and named him Rantu-Aru,as well she took in two birds. On one day the white men came back except left before they saw Karana. Karana had tried everything except they still didn't see her. A while later gigantic waves hit the island. Then a earthquake except they both still survived.

A year later a new ship came and this time Karana stayed in her house and they found her. She took most of her stuff with her in the weaved baskets. She also took Rantu-Aru and the two birds with her. The men made her a dress a finished fishing their otter. Next they all got on the ship as Karana found out the white men's ship had sunk during a big storm.

Main Character | Karana changed in mental way. When she was on the island alone she accepted that fact. She also stayed alive by making new animal friends. In the beginning she needed help with many things. Then at the end she was independent and could do many vigorous things by herself that normally would have taken three men, for example moving the giant canoes.

Important Scene | An important scene is when the white men find her and make her the dress. Why I think that is so important is because it shows that they were going to take her to where she was welcome and to a new place where there was people. Also when they made her the blue, silk dress it showed that they cared. Another thing is when Karana heard that her sisters ship sunk she got sad but then they kind of got her back up by them going to the place where the white men lived

If I were in the book | If I were in the I were in the book as a new character I would probably play the role of being one of the white men's daughters who get Karana. I would have been Karana's friend and hung out with her, as well taught her writing and other stuff. My relationship with the other characters is I probably not know them except help them if I did know them. I probably change the outcome a little because I would be with Karana in the end on the ship.
