A Year in Review | Dear Reader, As the end of the Latin year draws nearer, I look back and remember all of the fond times we had as a club. From early morning hot cinnamon roll sales to Saturday mornings spent touching up signs for Liberalia, I am so glad I had the opportunity to serve as Consul of The Walker School's chapter of the Georgia Junior Classical League. After our seniors left last year, I was not sure what to expect from our membership or our officers. Thankfully, I was greeted by a brand new type of energy. Yes, they may be wild and seem like they constantly are jumping off the walls and they may consistently try to take bad pictures of me, but they are our Latin Club. Please enjoy our year chronicled in this scrapbook! -Miranda Martin Consul 2011-2012

After a long summer of saying goodbye to our seniors, various trips, classroom clean-ups, toga bowling, and National Convention activities, Sodalitas, revitalized, finally reconvened for the year. | Summer 2012

August 18, 2011 | In our first evening meeting of the year, we plated Uno, Apples to Apples, and art museum, a great favorite among our delegation, and ate food brought in by our members. We had many old members attend, but also some new ones. Overall it was a success!

September 2, 2011 | For our first break meeting of the year, we honored the Ludi Romani with wheelbarrow races and donuts.

In this evening meeting, we played musical chairs, decorated cupcakes, and frolicked on the basketball court. | September 15, 2011

Every year, former Walker Latin student, Ryan Ernstes, hosts a 5K as a fund raiser for the Smile Train. This year, Walker Latin students and their friends donned Catullus-inspired t-shirts and trotted through the race. Some of us even placed in the top three for our age categories! | September 17, 2011

Sadly, this meeting proved to be unsuccessful because of Homecoming activities. However, we did have an attendance of four, Fall Forum forms, and grape juice. | October 7, 2011

October 29, 2011 | Fall Forum: enough said.

Since musical chairs was such a big hit last meeting, we decided to try it out at one of our break meetings. Needless to say, though it got a little violent... but still fun. | November 4, 2011

For this evening meeting, our Latin III class brought in traditional Roman food-- complete with fish paste! We also played rota and turkey hunt (an intense form of hide-and-go seek), for Thanksgiving. Through some hiding escapades, the floor cleaner ended up blocking the locker room door for a few minutes... Typical. | November 17, 2011

In this break meeting, we decided to have a thumb-wrestling competition in order to quench the Latin II's thirst for violence. The officers were not surprised in the slightest that they enjoyed this activity. | December 4, 2011

Every year, in honor of Saturnalia, Sodalitas hosts a candle exchange immediately following the last exam. In a complicated game, members try to sneakily obtain the coolest candle available. This year, a set of nutcrackers appeared to be the favorite. | December 15, 2011

In keeping with the traditions of after winter break meetings past, we had a relaxed break meeting with donuts and announcements. Our members talked of their breaks and we reunited after the much needed rest. | January 6, 2012

Our January evening meeting was set aside for Carnation Sale and state convention preparations. We made signs, ate dinner, and learned the NJCL song. | January 19, 2012

Every year, The Walker School sponsors a Language Week in which the World Language Soccer game, held on the Wednesday, is the prime event. Even some previous Latin students played on our team. In years past, we have come in first, but this year we came in third. At least we beat our rival, German! | January 25, 2012

In this break meeting, we got our members riled up for the Carnation Sale and did a bow and arrow activity playing off of cupid. We also had a random drawing for old Sodalitas memorabilia.. | February 3, 2012

Every year, Sodalitas holds the Carnation Sale for the SEGO We Care Foundation benefiting cancer patients. This year, we made about $1000! Members deliver the carnations to recipients lockers early in the morning on Valentine's day for a special surprise. | February 1-14, 2012

Our goal for this break meeting was to excite our members for the upcoming festival Latin holds each year for Liberalia. Thus, to please our more active members, we choose the most violent activity to play: gladiator noodle fighting. | March 2, 2012

To celebrate the Ides of March in this evening meeting, we played pin-the-dagger on Caesar. We also had pizza, played other favorite games, and picked a song to use for Roll Call though a competition for state convention. The Latin IIs were the winners! | March 15, 2012

Every year, Latin Club sponsors a Liberalia festival for the high school during lunches. This year we added an annuli making station and shaved ice. For entrance, students paid $2 or brought in a gently used book. We got about 100 books to donate to Better World Books. Though not as many people attended as we wished, we deemed this the most successful Liberalia yet. | March 22, 2012

In our last break meeting before State Convention, we decided to let the Latin IIs, our most active class, run the meeting. They brought donuts and let Decker talk about his campaign for GJCL president. | April 13, 2012

Walker's experience this year at GJCL state convention proved to be eventful! With high scores on tests, first place in spirit, well-deserved Olympika places, art winners, and a delegate in That's Entertainment, we celebrated one of the best conventions yet! | April 20-22, 2012

April 20-22, 2012 | Decker's campaigning as DJO (a play on his initials) proved to be very successful throughout state convention,, thanks to his delegation serving as fashion consultation and campaign managers, and on Sunday morning in the last GA, he was named GJCL's new president. We can't wait to see how he leads Georgia at Wake Forest!

As fitting with Sodalitas tradition, a new consul was elected at the meeting following state convention. Erin Leagan, a sophomore, now leads the club with a bright enthusiasm. In this meeting, we simply had voting, donuts, and even a FaceTime call from China to cast a vote. This meeting was, as usual, fairly emotional for the officers, but still fun. | May 4, 2012

In our last meeting for the year, we celebrated Lemuria by inviting alumni, playing manhunt, and telling ghost stories. We ended the year on a spooky and ecstatic note! | May 17, 2012

Summer 2012 | As the year came to a close, our founder, Mrs. Winona Robuck, passed away leaving a legacy of a love for Latin and friendship. For this, we would like to honor her in our scrapbook. (Photo from Collins Funeral Home) Our new president, Erin, revamped the Sodalitas Facebook group in the hopes that next year we will have better communication among the officers and the membership. Finally, the 8 delegates attending NJCL at Wake Forest this year are getting ready for what is to come!
