S: Girl's Trip to Maui February 2011

FC: "Our Trip to Paradise Maui, Hawaii

Maui, Hawaii February 21st - 28th, 2011 I still can't believe that this trip happened...All girls (Lori, Misti, Kristi, Bit & Mom), no kids, for one week in Maui. It was a dream...a trip of a lifetime...one that I will remember forever. Thank you to Jane Quarto for her amazing hospitality and for taking us around, showing us such a beautiful island. Mahalo

Leaving LAX Monday, February 21, 2011 | The night before we left, we stayed the night at the Holiday Inn, next to LAX. Aunt Bit met us there that morning...bright and early. It was a pretty cold morning, but we were so excited to be up and ready to get on that plane.

The view as we left LAX was so pretty. I never realized how beautiful our coastline is from the air. I also didn't realize how many islands we have off our coast. We had a smooth flight. We watched Secretariat and Grown-Ups on the plane. | Beautiful California Coastline...

 Santa Monica Pier

My first view of Hawaii was exactly how I imagined it would look. The shoreline was a vivid turquoise color and just beyond that, I saw lush green colored land. It was at that moment that I knew I was in Paradise. | Arriving in... | MAUI

Flying over Jane's house (blue roof).

Jane bought us all Lei's and presented us with them at the airport. Once we got to the car, she had fruit on sticks waiting for us in an ice chest. Then when we got to her house, she had gifts waiting for us in our rooms.

Woo hoo... We're at Jane's house. | Time to get these shoes off. | Yummy snacks while we do our yard work. | We spent no time changing our clothes and getting outside to do yard work. | Maui

Jane made us a fruity drink to celebrate our first day there. | So happy to be in Maui. | Just hours after arriving in Maui. | Linda and Mom grill some chicken for dinner

Tues., Feb. 22nd The morning after we got to Maui, we woke up early (4am) to drive up to the top of Haleakala to watch the sunrise. It is 10,000 ft. up, Maui's highest point. It was cloudy, but the view was still breathtaking. It was VERY cold, but was worth the drive and getting up early. | Haleakala Crater

Jane's backyard is a beautiful escape. It was so relaxing hanging out doing yard work or lounging in the hammock & watching whales swim by. Of course, going out on the water was a different kind of escape.

After we got back from Haleakala, we went straight into the water. Kristi & I took out the kayak and Mom & Misti each had a paddle board. Then we all switched so that we could all try everything. I got up on the paddle board the first time and never fell. I had a local on the shore shouting tips on how to stand correctly. It really was quite funny. I'm glad I tried it, but I much preferred the kayak.

 Bocce ball fun

After a fun day in the yard, we drove to Wailea to shop and eat. We had to take two cars, so Jane let Kristi drive her BMW on the way there. Eyes on the road, Kristi... | We ate at Cheeseburger in Paradise. We all got fruity drinks. I had a Lava Flow...YUM. Then we walked around and shopped.

Highs & Lows Each night, we would all gather and talk about our highs and lows for that day. | Jane bought us all matching jammies from Victoria's Secret...

Morning walk along the beach, followed by more backyard fun. We found Gecko eggs in a tree, Mom found a dead crab and then there was a turtle that washed up that we thought was sick. He had a few large tumors on him, but after calling & having him checked out, they determined he was okay...

Mom and I both got a Big Kahuna hot dog with pineapple salsa. It was so big that I ate it with a fork. | Eating lunch at the Grand Wailea Resort...We ate by the pool and then walked the grounds and did some shopping. I bought new Roxy flip flops here. | Grand Wailea

This Resort is really big and so beautiful. | Wed. Feb. 23rd

Wed. night, we went to see Adam Sandler & Jennifer Aniston's movie Just Go With It. Part of the movie was filmed at the Grand Wailea (where we were earlier that day). This movie was HILARIOUS...We laughed sooo hard. For dinner, we had movie popcorn and milk duds.

Before we went to the movies, I was in the hammock, talking to the kids and taking pictures of the storm over the ocean. Then I looked to my right and saw that it was pouring right over Ma'alaea Harbor. It was kind of crazy looking. Then after we got out of our movie, we came back and sat in the backyard and watched an incredible lightning show over the ocean, as well as, over Haleakala, which was behind us. It was so cool. We ate ice-cream and did our Highs & Lows outside.

On Thurs. Feb. 24th, we atarted the morning by walking from the Fairmont Resort to the Grand Wailea. Then we drove to Makena Beachfor the day. It was so vivid in color there. Oh, and they don't have seagulls, just little birds... | Makena Beach

Jane has a tradition that whenever she spends the day at Makena Beach, you must stop for shaved ice on the way home. | I got a Firecracker, which is Blue Raspberry, Pina Colada and Strawberry over Vanilla ice-cream. Then they drizzle Haupia (coconut sauce) over the top. It was DELICIOUS...

The sunsets over the ocean were just beautiful. God is such an amazing artist.

Jane arranged for us to go on a Whale Watching trip. It was a Sunset/Cocktail Cruise. While aboard, we got to listen to the music of Marty Dread. I loved his music (we listened to his CD at Jane's house prior to that night), so I bought 2 of his CD's. We had sooo much fun cruising, while watching whales all around us. | Whale Watching... | Friday, February 25th

 Mai Tai's at Sunset...

We went to eat at Fred's, after Whale Watching...I tried Mahimahi Fish Tacos...soooo good. I also tried a Horney Grandma Margarita. | Cheers

Jane has a pond in her front yard that the frogs just love...It wouldn't be so bad, except at night, they make the most hideous noise that is really loud and lasts approx 10 seconds at a time. So, catching and relocating the frogs is a much welcomed activity. Since there were no guys in the house, Kristi decided she would brave the frogs. That was until she caught one in the net and then freaked and went running with it. We laughed so hard... | Taken over by FROGS...

Under the Sea | We had a great time going out in the ocean and seeing all the turtles and coral.

This female turtle was playing with Misti and I. She kept swimming under our kayak. She hung out with us for a while...she was very curious.

These kayakers got a great show...they were so close to this Mama and her baby,

Having a Whale of a Good Time.... It was whale season, so we got to see A LOT of whales...even baby whales. All week long, we got excited for each and every whale sighting. | Jane trying to get a closer look.

The hotel where Uncle Tom & Aunt Bit met and later honeymooned at. | Hanging out at Ka'anapali

We ate dinner in Lahaina at Kobe's. It was such yummy food. There was a young couple on their honeymoon that sat by us. Jane ended up paying for their meal. Then we walked around and shopped. Such a fun night.

It was such a beautiful morning before we went to Church...what a great time for a photo session... | Sunday, February 27th

 Visiting Jane's Maui Church...

Ho'okipa Beach...North Shore | Climbing down to get a better view.

Mom and her girls at Mama's Fish House. | Hawaiian Style Mahimahi... | Chocolate Kuau Pie baked in caramel cookie crust...yum. | Banana Macadamia Nut Crusted Dish with Vanilla ice-cream.

 Jane's Beautiful Home

 The view from my bed

Ahh...now this is the life... | Sister's toes... | Fresh Pineapple...daily. | Our chairs...waiting for us to do Yard work. | The view from the Dining Room | I had Spam & Eggs with Fried Rice for breakfast. It was so good. | Misc. Maui Moments...

Palm Trees in Paradise | Jane's house from the water

Leaving Maui was so bittersweet. I was sad to leave such a beautiful, relaxing place but I missed my family at home. I feel incredibly blessed to have been given the opportunity to go on this trip. I'm so glad that I have all the pictures and memories to remember my trip to Paradise... | TAXI

On our plane ride home, Kristi and I blew up Lei's for our kiddos. This was quite entertaining and kept us busy for a little while. Flying into LAX at night was so pretty with all the lights. All our families were there to greet us when we landed. It was cold outside...much different than Maui.
