These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other. These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy. These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children. These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one. These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it. And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.”

52: I have been friends with Kendi since we first officially met in the 4th grade. I say officially because we later realized we had ridden the same bus together when we were even younger. I can still remember the girl with incredibly blonde curly hair sitting with her brother and all the older kids in the noisier back of the bus. Not long after we became friends, we discovered a band called Hanson. I don’t even want to think about how much money was spent on teen magazines that we bought to cover every inch of our walls with posters of Hanson. I think both of our parents spent a lot of time trying to convince us (and probably themselves) that it was just a phase. However I can tell you that the last concert we went to was less then year ago, and we were just listening to our favorite Hanson songs while getting ready this morning. So, needless to say it’s been a very long phase. While growing up, few weekends went by without a sleepover happening at one of our houses. Many mornings were spent watching, and comparing ourselves to, The Angry Beavers and Cat Dog. This was followed by hours of attempting to construct hammocks in earwig infested trees, finding clever ways to set-up a volleyball net without any poles, playing badminton until it was so dark you couldn’t see the birdie anymore, and developing a line of clothing made out of paper (which was a very short-lived dream). Kendi and I have shared many laughs and joy over the years. She has been my closest friend through all the good and not so good times. I can’t even put into words how happy I am that she has found such a kind and truly good person to spend the rest of her life with. I know we all wish Brett and Kendi a life full of love and happiness. But I especially wish Brett lots of patience and luck in surviving all of the future Hanson concerts he has just signed himself up for. Let us all raise our glasses and toast the bride and groom. To Kendi and Brett and a long and happy life together.
