FC: Year One

“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.” -Confucius This is a collection of shots from our first year in operation. It was tough to choose which photos would make the cut - it was like picking a favorite child, but we think we have a great selection of frames here. We've learned a lot and have met some fantastic people along our journey. We would like to thank all of the beautiful models who've graced our lenses, our friends for putting up with us, and our families for all of their support. Mark and Anthony

When we first started shooting, all we had for lighting was a single PAR-56 Spotlight. Using a fog machine, we began playing with the unique light.

 Taffara Murray

Eventually we got tired of shooting ourselves, and sought out models to shoot... | Left: Brian Stever Right: Katelyn Richard

Left: Dan Maxwell Right: Katelyn Richard

Left/Middle: Brittany Severin Right: Claire Bonsey | We started to experiment with alternative light sources. Using light ropes and lightbulbs, we were able to achieve some amazing results.

Experimentation moved to other things... Quickly, we discovered that we could do more than just shoot models. Our imaginations were only limited by the time we had to actually shoot the things we thought up. The possibilities seemed endless. Then we discovered high speed photography.

This particular shoot was really complicated. We had to coordinate the flashes with the explosions of the balloons. We used a pellet gun to burst the balloons, and had to time the shots perfectly. Eventually we figured out a process of firing the gun and the camera at the precise moments to get the desired results.

We had to be extra creative with Sasha, aka Scribble. She's a DJ and we were tasked to do some promo shots with her, so regular model setups just wouldn't do. Smoke effects and gelled lights put her right at home, and created some excellent results. | Sasha Morozova "Scribble"

Claire Bonsey | James Densley | Jeff Roper | Kaitlin Knox

As we went on, we got to work with more and more amazing people. Each shoot brought new experiences, and we honed our skills. | Top: Nicki Davis Middle: Trinette Nurse Jenna Bourgeois Miss Magenta Bottom: Vlada Tabachuk

 "My Living Will"

"Skin Deep" This concept shoot with Kaitlin Knox was about eating disorders in young women. The message we wanted to convey, was that women are beautiful as they are. | Eight out of 10 women are not happy with their reflection. It is estimated that 200,000-300,000 Canadian women aged 13-40 have Anorexia Nervosa, and twice as many have Bulimia.

When shooting with Tara Main, we wanted to do something unique that we haven't tried before. Using a high definition projector, and our white background, we shot some gorgeous silhouette shots.

When we did our first "Rain" shoot in February, it was highly experimental, and we were really just playing around. We decided it was time to have another go at it, and under more controlled settings, we were able to surpass the results we got the previous time. The shoot was so popular that it inspired many other shoots just like it in the local photographic community. | Pauline Malpage

 Scott Gray, Tara Main

"The Fallen Angel" When Claire Bonsey asked us to do another creative shoot with her, it started out with just a scattered collection of vague ideas. Those ideas just blew up and everything flowed together. New lighting techniques, light ropes, smoke effects, and some prop modification completed one of our most popular shoots.

We always seem to be subjecting Tara Main and Scott Gray to extreme cold when we shoot them together. We thought the Moonlight Silhouettes were cold enough... then they endured the ice cold water for us. In our defense, it was supposed to be a very hot day. It turned out to be overcast, and started naturally raining too!

To my wonderful assistant, and studio manager - my best friend, and my rock, thank you for always being there for me. You keep me inspired, and pick me up when I fall. You're not afraid to tell me when something sucks, and you don't let me get away with passing something off, when it truly is amazing. Without you, I'd be nowhere - you believed in me when no one else (including myself) would. So, thank you for being the brightest light in my entire arsenal. -Anthony
