5: We visited our cousins in Aix, the beautiful "Town of Fountains." Alexi took us through the market with its dizzying array of food and spices. | France Summer 1995
6: Avignon is one of the few French cities to have preserved its historic center. The annual Festival d'Avignon takes place in the Palace of the Popes and in the streets.
7: Saint Paul de Vence, a medieval town, has an amazing modern art museum, Fondation Maeght.
8: Suzette, the wife of Charles, the first cousin of Marilyn's father, was so warm and welcoming to us -- and her English was perfect! | Paris
11: Fall 1995 Freshman year started off with a 4-day camping trip. October brought Yale parents' weekend and a visit with dear friends Susan and Victor Bers.

23: The Wampanoag Indians showed the first English settlers where wild cranberries grew in low, damp areas. In the early 19th century cranberries began to be cultivated in bogs. We took the cranberry bog trail in Pamet, now a national park.

43: The Lodge was reached by a 3-hour boat trip up a tributary of the Amazon River. Primitive settlements lined the banks of the River.
44: We explored the dense jungle in 100 degree heat and 100 degree humidity! Our two guides, one native and one Oxford-educated, explained the incredible bio-diversity of the rain forest and protected us.
