1: This book is dedicated to our grandchildren so that they can share in our adventure in Tanzania March 2011
2: A.... is for AFRICA where we saw AMAZING ANIMALS
3: B.... is for BABOON which lives in groups of 100 or more and makes funny faces at us
4: C.... is for the COLOBUS MONKEY which loves to live high in the trees
5: D.... is for the DIKDIK which hides in the bush and is very hard to see | and for DIRT roads which are everywhere in Tanzania
6: E.... is for ELEPHANT which is the biggest animal in Africa
7: F....is for FLAMINGO which lives in a huge flock by Lake Manyara
8: G....is for GIRAFFE which loves to eat acacia leaves on the tops of trees
9: H...is for HIPPOPOTAMUS which likes to be in the water to stay cool in the hot sun
10: I.... is for IMPALA, a type of antelope which can run fast and jump very high | The male has horns
11: J... is for JACKAL. There are two kinds: the Black-backed jackal and the Golden jackal. It looks like a dog but is more dangerous
12: K...is for KILIMANJARO, a snow-covered mountain that is really three very old volcanoes
13: L... is for LION which hunts at night and sleeps all day
14: M....is for MONKEY and this one is blue! It loves to live in the trees in Lake Manyara Park
15: N....is for Ngorongoro Crater where thousands of animals live....except the giraffe!
16: O....is for OSTRICH, the biggest bird in the world, but it cannot fly!
17: P and Q..... is for PORCUPINE and for the QUILLS which are very sharp and come off when it is in danger!
18: R.... is for RHINOCEROS which is a huge animal but can run very fast! His eyesight is very poor.
19: S....is for SAFARI which is a trip where people look for or hunt the animals in Africa
20: T.... is for THOMPSON'S GAZELLE which can be found all over TANZANIA. Both males and females have horns.
21: U....is for UNGULATES which are animals with a hoof. Three more animals we saw are the...... | ELAND | BUFFALO | WARTHOG
22: V.... is for VERVET MONKEY which uses different sounds to warn about different predators
23: W.... is for WILDEBEEST (also called a GNU), which has a large nose shaped like a lawnmower to help it eat grass
24: X...is for XENUS, a small ground squirrel | Y.... is for YOUNG elephant, which follows his parents all over Africa
25: .....and Z is for ZEBRA, which has stripes that protect them from lions and hyenas
