Biography Ansel Adams' life of photography began on Februrary 20th, 1902 in San Francisco, California. He was the son of Charles Hitchcock Adams, a businessman from Olive Bray. Adams was a hyperactive child and prone to frequent sickness and hypochondria. He had few friends but his family home and surroundings on the heights facing the Golden Gate provided ample childhood activities. Although he had no patience for games or sports, the curious child took to nature at an early age, collecting bugs and exploring Lobos Creek all the way to Baker Beach and the sea cliffs leading to Lands End. This is where his love for nature began.

Adams had a great love for music in his earlier year up until about the gae of 30 when he turned his attention to photography. He didn't automatically decide to become a professional photographer though. At first, he occasionally started taking photo shoots in the summer of Nevada and other great spots for nature. Other famous photographers saw his photos and decided he had a bright future in the business.

After Adams mastered the art of taking the pictures, he decided to get into the photo editing part of photography. “Dodging” and “burning” are two of the techniques Ansel became a magician at essentially. Dodging and burning are two terms in photography which simply mean brightening and darkening. They can be used to create great contrast in photos amking pictures magnificent. Adams had a long life of photography, 82 years, and received numerous awards both before and after death. Overall, Adams is known to be one of America's best photgraphers of all time.

Ansel Adams Photos Through My Eyes

This Ansel Adams photograph is one of my favorites. The value of this photo is really striking and is really awesome. The burning is perfect on the road part because it also allows the texture of the pavement. The highlights of this photo are also cool on the lines of the road. It really brings them to the front creating great contrast between the road and the lines.

This photo is focused pretty much all over. I can kind of see the difference in the background and flower in the focus aspect of things. The value is very interesting on this photo. | The lines in the wood backing are very dark and outlined. The shadows in the flower are also extremely burned or darkened. The texture of the flower really shows because of the brilliant dodging and burning done by Mr. Ansel.

The lines in this photo are very interesting. The trunk of the tree creates beautifully rounded lines in the branch-like objects. Not as much burning and dodging was done to this photo as the one before this. I so like the stones around the tree though, it gives depth to the picture and really creates a sense of space.
