Deer Season 2010-11 - Page Text Content

S: Winter Vacation 2012

FC: Deer Season 2010-11.

1: Deer Season 2011 Consisted of a lot of hard work, and tracking, but in the end.. it paid off!

2: Opening Morning of the season, I wake up at about 3:30 am, and get ready and load the truck up, to hit the road to Henderson Co. When I arrive I throw on the rest of my gear, and load my bolt action .270. I walk into the woods about 30 yards, and sit on the ground rested up against an old oak tree. Its about 5:45 now and the sun is peeping over the trees. When i spot this nice 6 point buck at about 80 yards.

3: Once i spotted the buck i watched him for about 30 minutes walking back and forth through the trees tail tucked head down, and had no idea i was there watching him.. and then he disappeared off into the brush.. | "Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail"

5: ...Roughly 10 minutes later i look up, and theres the same buck again, he had came back and was wondering through the woods headed straight towards me! He got about literally 10 feet from me when he stopped and looked at me and started blowing. Jumped back and turned and ran 20 yards and stopped. and i threw my gun up and looked through the scope, took a second look through the scope and BOOMM!! The blood from the deer is pouring out as he runs another 20 yards and drops.

7: "All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible." | I sit and wait for about 30 minutes just to see if anything else wanders through and to give the deer enough time to bleed out and die. And so i get up and i follow the blood trail to the deer, and he went into the thickest part of the woods and dies. So i had to drag this 180 pound deer out by myself for 100 yards back to the field. Then i field dressed the deer and threw him in the back of the truck and headed home to show my parents and brothers, And to call local butcher shops. The closest place and the cheapest place was in Sebree, Ky. So i get back into the truck and take the deer to Yoder's Butchering in Sebree,Ky. And on the way home i said to myself im going to go back this afternoon and see if i cant bag another one. So i go home and take a 2 hour nap and then get ready to hit the road again to see if i cant bag a doe this time.

8: When i get to where im going in Henderson county, Kentucky. i load my gun up, and grab my chair and hit the woods, except this time i moved back about 50 yards. And at this time it is 3:00pm, so i sat there for about 2 hours and i look to my right and i spot 4 does running in the field in my direction about 150 yards off. 2 of the does stop and turn and run off in another direction, one of the does starts making its way into the woods when all of a sudden it stops and starts blowing. and then turns and runs off.

9: The other does continued on down the field and i spot her about 20 minutes later and she is making her way towards me. So i sit and i wait and she gets about 20 yards from me and stops and starts towards the field again, and i whistle, she stops pokes her head up, and at this point i already have the gun in position, and i fire, she runs into the field and dies.
