Table of Contents Where I'm From ....2-3 Mothers kitchen....4-5 Self Respect..........6-7 GSMST .................8-9

I am from cotton, from turbans and sugar cane. I am from the dirt roads of the dessert Where neighborhoods are families and sorrow does not exist but despair does, The truth is kept secret but the people blindly fight for change. I am from the sand and ruble, the bananas and mangoes Where the dogs howl at the moon longing for a better life I am from Cook outs and Tribal scars, From great grandpa Hassan and Great Grandma Nadia and The Hassan Clan I am from the heavy laughs and funny stories. From the will never to give up Where work is the answer I am from the practice of Islam not obsession with it I'm from Sudan where the Dates are always ripe and the papaya is the sweetest around. From the tale of my fathers protests against the government, The tales of respect and triumph, and the stories of endurance and inner strength Where patience is a virtue but inpatients sweeps the land | Where

I am from the true desert Where the sun is the dictator And the people fight against him Where dogs roam like beggars, looking for water Where strength is next to will power I am from smart people People who have the streets down to a science People who trust, but also doubt People who know how to live People whose thinking is far out of the box I am from Mother Africa, Where my baby pictures are hung and my family thrives, Where my parents grew up and my ancestors triumphed Where true workers live and men are made Where my heart is My home | I'm From

She walked in the kitchen silently She turned her head and saw something green Her imagination ran wild Was it a zombie, frog, a Crocodile? Like a mouse she tiptoed on Being almost as graceful as a fawn With her golf club she swung rapidly Swatting away the dark figures she couldn't see A shatter rang through mom's domain Where lied the vase like a dirty stain She flicked on the light with a worried face And tried to assemble the broken vase She cleaned the room in an obsessive manner Then she searched the room like a thorough scanner For she knew she would certainly be dead If her mother found a single shard of red She desperately looked around Until not a single shard was found She let out a squeal of happiness and glee With a new found sense of certainty She turned with a pride harboring grin Happy of how well she concealed her ridiculous sin She walked away and raised her smile Ready to go to sleep for a while Without warning in the corner She saw a sight that stained her smile like sulfur She saw her mother With a dead cold face like no other She stood next to the oven Singling out a small fragment in the kitchen Suddenly she noticed it was red And ran dishonorably to her bed | Mother's Kitchen

Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible. ~Marion C. Garretty

I am what is I need not your approval For I walk alone With no one's help I stand tall on my own legs, like a soldier straight and firm. My opinion is all that matters to me If I think I look good I do If I think somethings cool then it is Other do judge but I do not base myself on what they say I am work of art I shine only for those who acknowledge me I will not take someone's word For I already have my own I need not your two cents Because my two pennies look good enough for me Though I do not try to please I do not aim to displease For all those who hate on my creed Know you are not being acknowledged Know you are not being accepted But lastly, know that I am what is | Self Respect

Gsmst , A test only for those truly ready Why must you torment us with your work? But draw us back in with your endless wonder You're giving birth to the new generation of greats Your walls of pure technology lure many in But your rigorous curriculum chases many out You truly are a work of art The relationship we have is defiantly a love hate thing I spend more time with you than my family Nicknamed nerd school you are not fazed You just brush it off your shoulder Like you do the students who can't handle you You intimidate so many Breaking perfect A students down to C students You reek of sweat and pencil shavings You diminish social lives and sever bonds How can you live with yourself? You evil thing From your test you bring out champions Tough love is what you are We hate you until we conquer you At that point we are thanking you for never easing up on us So like very few other I will conquer your test And I will make sure 4 years worth of my sweat and pencil shavings are embedded into your walls

Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did. ~Newt Gingrich | GSMST
