S: Our Wilderness Adventures
BC: C'mon... you know hikin' with me is fun!
FC: Our Wilderness Adventures Central & Southern California 2009 & 2010
The Hikers | Kevin AKA: Kevin. Carries swifter sweeper handle and proud of it. Known for hogging the jerky and not bringing enough water. | Linda AKA: The Pink Pirate; Trail Chicken & the Fearless Caboose. Known for hiking the speed of Gandalf the Grey, complaining about lack of jerky, and bringing too much water. | Sophia AKA: Wonder Girl. Much stronger and faster than she appears to be. Known for adding approx. 50# to her mother's back.
That's right... we're on our way to Upper Yosemite Falls This is how you do it!
We're to the top of Lower Yosemite Falls.... .... we're half way there!
Linda, famous for her vertigo, is about to descend the steps leading to the look out. Notice the 'grip of death' on the pipe as she slowly makes her way... step by *don't touch me, don't touch me* step.
Looking down from the top of the falls! (This hike is a fantastic way to begin any photo album, even though it's actually from June 2008.)
Daddy & Sophia | Goin for the Big Hike | Mama & Sophia | San Fernando Valley
 Goat Mountain
Goat Mountain - and it's partner peak, Goat Mountain Lookout - are located in the Bass lake area. Not the most beautiful area, but it certainly gets the heart thumping. (Note to self, to avoid three miles of road walking... bring 2 cars.
There is something wonderful about watching the very little explore the wilderness. With backpack stocked with snacks, and proper hiking attire, we took Sophia to her first forest exploration.
Father's Day Hike Rancharia Falls 2009 | This was Sophia's first time seeing a waterfall - she said it was "very loud!" She carried her own backpack, tried some buffalo jerky, climbed over logs, ate some nice, crispy apples and picked a bouquet of flowers for her daddy.
After our 4 mile hike to the falls, our future music director - Sophia - led us in a round of 'row, row, row your boat" with cues when to come in! Next stop, Huntington Lake for a first rate fishing lesson, complete with Barbie fishing pole and key (We didn't catch very much with that key).
Mt. Pinos, CA | The Pink Pirate surveying her surroundings.
Boney Mountain! We talked about this moment for a long time, and here's our chance! Better check out that map first, make sure we don't get lost
Kevin making his summit attempt. | Sandstone Peak
Boney Mountain A wonderful trek dotted with several peaks. Sandstone Peak was the tallest; however, Inspiration Point and Tri-Peaks were pretty darn spectacular too.
 Balance Rock
10 miles of beautiful, Southern California wilderness: lovely oak groves, amazing views of Mt. Baldy to the East and Channel Islands to the West.... what more could we need? | Exploring the Beauty
Paradise Creek Trail, Sequoia National Park Rainy Day, Spring 2010
Driving along the 99, Kevin thought it looked as if we were driving into a cloud. | Well we did. And it was lovely.
 Pincusion Peak, Millerton Lake Area
 Pincushion Peak May, 2010
Sophia Making her push for the summit!
Sophia loves the beach. We took her to Hollywood Beach in Ventura and she had an absolute blast running, conducting the waves, running, dancing & running some more!
 Chilnualna Falls Yosemite National Park
A stick and some water; the only ingredients needed for fun.
A day in Woodward Park. We walked down to the river where we climbed trees, watched for wild rabbits and birds, and had a lot of fun riding on mama's back. It was a beautiful, sun-shiny day.
Fresno Dome Our task: Ascent and Descent Bravery Index: 7 Scenery Index: 11
Ok, perhaps the bravery index wasn't as high as the chicken index. Ok, perhaps I was face down on the center of the rock hugging it for all I was worth. It was an awesome hike and we lived to tell the tale.
The $3,000 Hike Make sure to really savor these next few pages... take your time... soak it all in.... | Such a lovely, lovely location. We hiked this the Summer of 2010. Could not have asked for more beautiful weather (until the thunder clouds came in, cutting our hike short just a bit.) | High altitude hiking takes its toll; it may be a while before we have the opportunity to romp around these hills again. (Next time, we'll make a weekend of it.)
California is blessed with gorgeous, granite-rimmed sub-alpine lakes, lush meadows and a myriad of wildflowers. The heavens really are telling the glory of God.
Upper Twin Lake, Kaiser Wilderness. And this makes it all worth the effort.
On the road to Mineral King! There are 698 turns in the road leading to this beautiful area. Ask Kevin, he drove. We were fortunate enough to be able to spend the night in John & Joan Keesey's humble little cabin. Kevin and I were not sure how to find the cabin -we had never been there before - so we asked some people for directions. Their reply: "Keep heading down the road .... you can't miss it"
The Hike To Monarch Lake Because of the high altitude, and due to the scare from the last hike involving altitude, this particular outing took a bit of planning. | To add to the situation, I wound up leading this with the hiking club. All worrying aside, it wound up being a very enjoyable hike with some pretty fast hikers. (Or was I just really slow.....)
Lower Monarch Lake, Mineral King, CA
BRRRRRRR! | Kevin learns that water is cold when you're at 10,600'!
This should float... | I don't want to be freezing cold (like the fool on the other page.) | ... think it's gonna work... | oh-oh. Not Working! | (Point where Linda injured leg.) | Swim Shock!
 Sawtooth Peak
Hiking is better with friends. | The *facilities*
Hiking is BEST with those who love you. | Thank you for the wonderful memories Kevin, and here's to our future adventures together. I Love You.! Linda
