FC: This sensuous book tells of a woman's abandonment of her family, her seduction, and her awakening to desires and passions that threated to consume her. | Prepare to take a tour through the novel "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin and get an in depth look into its characters. The Awakening has been hailed as an early vision of woman's emancipation.

1: Enda is the Protagonist in the Awakening. Throughout the story she goes through a tranformation and gains a state of mind which causes her to become independent. However, this state of mind puts her in a position where she is eventually isolated from every one else.

3: Leonce Pontellier | Leonce Pontellier is Edna's husband in the book. He loves Edna and his sons but he rarely see's them becasue he is always off on buisness trips. Leonce continually urges Edna to fit in with society and conform to everyone elses life style.

4: Robert Lebrun

5: Robert Lebrun is a26 year old man who Edna ends up falling in love with. As the story progresses he learnes that he has with out dought falllein love with Edna as well.

6: Madame Lebrun

7: Madame Lebrun is the widowed mother of Victor and Robert. She owns and manages the cottages on Grand Isle where the novel's characters spend their summer vacations.

8: Adele Ratignolle

9: Adele Ratignolle is Edna's best friend in the book.
