It was the fall of 1994. Sara had just left home to join Cam at UofM. KV was alone and almost 10 - the perfect setting for a puppy to join the Saless Family. The sign said "Jennifer Peterson - Daisy Dog Breeder". KV and I carefully dipped our shoes in the pan of bleach water before nervously entering the office. A stern Jennifer interviewed us for a solid half hour on our background and what we expected from our puppy. She said it was extremely important that she match us with the right puppy personality. Only then did she allow KV, who by this time was over the moon with excited anticipation, to enter the hallowed door to the nursery. There were 4 Dutch doors opening to the hall, just low enough for KV to see over to the puppies in each room. The sweet smell of cedar chips on the floor combined with the squeaks and squeals from within set the mood for what followed next...
Wildly running from door to door, our boy scrambled back to #2 and yelled, "Mom, look at this one!". Four bundles of cream colored fur scampered in the cedar chips. Only one looked up with huge soulful eyes peering out from chestnut brown markings. In a theatrical swish Jennifer opened the door. The joyful scene that followed gives me goose bumps to this day! KV on the floor, over run by joyful puppies, cedar chips flying. But there he was in his arms....... MAXIE BOY
Cozy places. That's what I love. Leave your open suitcase on the floor, I'll nestle in !
Max makes the news! One of the first "Dog of the Week" winners on edhat website. Obviously, a good choice.
People loved Max... and he loved them right back.
 Special effects Max!
Before meeting Max, Aria and Navid were deathly afraid of dogs.
Omar couldn't believe Ayme was picking Max up. She'd been traumatized by a dog as a child.
Cappy and Max make it into the News Press
 Trick or Treat!!

 The Maxie Walk
It was time for Sara's grand entrance at her and David's wedding when a plaintive howl echoed from inside the house. How could we have left out Max! Emma to the rescue as Dad and Sara begin their walk.

On December 17, 2010 at 4:32 PM, Sallie Shahid-Saless emailed: To all our friends and family who know and loved Max - This morning with tears and hugs and gentle help from Dr. Kathleen Mc Farlin, Max passed into a well deserved sleep. There was no doubt that it was time for him to go... so although there will be lots of tears, we'll try to remember all the joy and unconditional love he gave us. As we always told him even as he was falling asleep for the last time, "Max, you are the best doggie in the whole wide world" ... and he always will be for the Saless Family.
