3: "You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." -Dr. Seuess | Jay worked very hard to make his proposal super special! After he had met with my parents throughout the week (making up really poor lies about where he was and feeling guilty about it the whole time, lol), he called my former principal to put his first plan into action. Jay was working on a recycling project with his class where they were making T-shirts with recycling logos. Being a teacher himself, Jay understands how special my students are to me. After much thought, he came up with the plan to write, "Will you marry me?" on T-shirts my students would then wear into the classroom to surprise me during their return from P.E. at the end of the day. Unfortunately for Jay, this plan was not approved by the district. By this point he was bursting at the seams with eagerness to ask me to marry him! Week two brought Jay's second plan to fruition. Our first "real" date was at the Comedy Connection in East Providence, RI. He called ahead of time to talk with them about his plan. Before this we had gone to Carrabba's (one of our favorites!) and Barnes and Noble which was an interesting time. Jay had been telling me for the last couple weekends that he was "cutting wood" for his uncle (a.k.a. ring shopping!). At dinner he mentioned that he was pretty tired and may not be able to make it to the Comedy Show as a decoy because he thought I was on to him. I was wicked bummed that he had been working so hard for all these weekends and wouldn't be able to enjoy to our special "date night", so as Jay says I was a little (okay, a lot!) "unlikable" at Barnes and Noble, lol. After our hot chocolate at the bookstore Jay got his "second wind" and we made it to the Comedy Connection (his plan all along!). When we arrived I realized we were sitting in the front row which made me nervous. (Having been to comedy shows in the past, I knew never to sit in the front row unless you want to get made fun of!) After we were seated Jay said he was going to the bathroom where he actually talked with the comedian and pleaded with him to work us into the show ASAP because he was so nervous. His great friend, Clint, was hiding at the bar and helping calm his nerves by sending him drink after drink. I thought it was a little odd when Jay kicked back 5 Grey Goose and cranberry drinks (usually 2 max on a "wild and crazy" night! lol), and I even mentioned it once or twice. Well, poor Jay was so nervous because people kept sending the comedian shots and Jay thought the comedian forgot about him! It was 10:15pm (the show ended at 10:30pm) when the comedian started picking on us. He asked who was married and then pointed to us and said, "How about you guys? You are a great looking couple!" Jay bantered with him a little bit while I tried to slide down in my chair, praying he would stop talking with us ASAP. Not long after this he was inviting us on stage with him! I slipped on my shoes that had been off under the table and nervously walked on stage with Jay. It was then when Jay got down on one knee! I was so nervous all I heard was "waaaa, waaaa, waaa", saw a beautiful shiny ring, and said "YES"! My hand was shaking so much Jay didn't think he could hold it still long enough to slide the beautiful ring he had been working so hard on onto my finger. At this point everyone was clapping and Clint came over from his hiding spot at the bar to celebrate with us. Jay's proposal was definitely worth all the hard work he put into it! :)
