FC: the bullets oak hill pinto all-stars summer 2011

1: The Oak Hill Bullets were a team of 12 awesome 8-year-old all-stars selected at the end of the 2011 spring baseball season from the Oak Hill YSA in Austin, Texas. The boys met at the All-Star Ceremony and started up practices on May 23rd. Just 4 days later, they were playing in their first tournament at North Hays. The Bullets finished 2nd in the North Hays tournament, and then beat the Manchaca all-stars in back-to-back games to WIN the Manchaca tournament the following weekend! The next tournament was a tough and disappointing one at the Oak Hill Invitational on their home fields, but the boys really learned what it meant to always play hard and hustle, support their teammates, and never give up on themselves. After losing their opening game in Sectionals at the Hays Sandlot, the Bullets re-grouped to battle out of the loser's bracket and advance to Regionals. Their determination was tested again at Regionals after a hard- fought 6th inning defeat at the hands of the Oak Hill Hurricanes put them into the loser's bracket again. The Bullets had to decide...give in or battle through and get the 3 wins in 3 games that they needed to win the loser's bracket and advance to State. These "do it the hard way" Bullet boys kept the fans nervous all the way through the final game of Regionals. It was at the North Hays fields against Manchaca, a team that they had split 4 games with during the regular season. With a berth in the State Tourney on the line, the Bullets led their archrival most of the game, but fell behind by 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning. WIth 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th, the Bullets were still down 4 with only one runner on 1st base and a very loud Manchaca crowd cheering every pitch. But these Bullet boys NEVER give in! The next 5 batters went right up to the plate one after another and crushed the ball...runners were flying around the bases...and the Bullets rallied to an amazing 21-20 victory!! For the 3rd straight year, this sent TWO Pinto teams from the Oak Hill league to the State Tournament, which had never happened in OHYSA's 44 year history until 2009. Only 16 teams qualify to play there. The Bullets played good baseball at State in Burleson, taking a lead into the bottom of the last inning of their second game... but they were beaten by two good baseball teams and knocked out of the tournament, finishing the season with an impressive 19-9 record. The coaches and parents are SO proud of our Oak Hill Bullets...not just for winning baseball games, but for playing with heart, being great sports, supporting their teammates and having LOTS of fun along the way! We enjoyed the ride, Bullets!!
