 Nicole Izzi May 7th 2009

A plane full of young British school boys was shot down by a war plane by mistake. The plane crash -landed on a deserted island, and only the adults were killed on impact.

Two boys, Ralph and Piggy quickly form a bond and talk about being rescued. They find a conch and summon the others. Another boys Jack meets up with them followed by his group of boys. Ralph and him debate who will be the leader. Jack unaggreeably looses and Raplh becomes the keeper of the conch.

The boys come up with some simple rules about how they are going to survive. Jack suggests his team could become the hunters. Ralph agrees but assigns some boys to take care of a signal fire that was started with the use of Piggys glasses magnifying the sun.

Ralph and Jack explore the island together to find food. They come acrossed a wild pig stuck in some vines. Jack attemps to kill it for food, but cant. He feels defeated and threatens that next time he wont have to think, it will happen.

The children become restless at night and start seeing things as a threat. One night during a storm, the vines begain to move with the wind and have a eery effect on the children. They have come to think there is a beast on the island. Jack and Ralph think the idea is chilidish, and ignore their fear.

Jack and his followers decide that they dont want Ralph to be thier leader and leave to start their own tribe. By doing so, they begin to terrorize Ralphs group. One by one the children switch swides.

Jack's group catches a pig and invites Ralph and Piggy to a feast. His group places the head of the animal on a stake and leaves it as an offering to the "beast". During the feast all the children begin dancing crazily and chasing eachother to imitate their big hunt.

After the group had caught the animal, Simon was was walking through the forest and came acrossed the head of the boar on a stake. To his dissmay the head spoke to him, explaining that the only "beast" on the island is in themselves. Simon ran from the head and towards the dancing children to tell them of what he learned. They were in a frenzy and saw him as the "beast" and attacked. Simon's body was carried away by the waves.

The children were in dinial about the death of Simon. After Jack and his group stole Piggy's glasses to make their own fire, Ralph and Piggy decide to confront him in anger. Dunring Piggy's speech, he is killed when a boulder is pushed off a small cliff by the kids. Ralph runs away from the dangerous group. Later on he comes back to steal some food and Jack finds out. During the chase, Jack sets the forest on fire to smoke out Ralph. In doing so the smoke creates a large signal and attracts a boat. Ralph was about to get caught when he fell upon a sailors feet. He started to cry, but the children were saved.

SETTING: The story takes place during WWII off the coast on a remote island in the 1940's. CONFLICT: The characters face a struggle with no rules or boundries. This is settled by creating groups based off of a leader, hunters, and watchmen and explorors. THEME: The themes of this story include Good and Evil, Morals and Morality, and Reason and Emotion.

The major character of the story would have to be Ralph. He is the most optimistic one on the island, and the most orginized leader of the children. Ralph knows that to survive, needed rules must be set. He represents Good, and Jack is Evil. Ralph goes against everything Jack represents. The protagonist is Ralph and the antaganist is Jack. Jack is an overpowered kid who manipulizes his group and doesnt want to be like the adults. To his group, he is strong, and he uses that fact to control them.

Piggy is like Ralphs sidekick from the begining. He is the smartest of them all, by trying to improve the time they spend on the island. He complains a lot but is rational. Simon is the "Spiritual" one of the group. He loves nature more than the others. He gets destroyed by the "Evil", Jack. Sam and Eric, also known as "Samneric", and always together. They are twins and close friends of Ralph until Jack takes over and ruins the friendship.

Three Resons Why Intrest of Death among children Inspiration of Favorite Artists What would happen if we didnt have laws | I would recommend this novel to someone else. The novel is a well written and well known story that i think anyone could get into. If I would recommend it to someone of my own age, I would tell them that there is interesting trouble towards the end of the book (the deaths of Piggy, and Simon). Also, they would be impressed with the inspiration that some of their favorite artists got from this book. Another reson i would recommend this book is because it teaches a lesson in a way, of why we have rules (laws) and what would happen if we didnt.
