BC: Shawn McDaniel is a 14-year-old boy with a serious disease, cerebral palsy. With this condition, also comes a super power. Shawn remembers everything that he has ever heard, literally. Even though he can't speak to anyone and no one can understand him, he still thinks that he is smarter then everyone. Shawn’s parents are getting a divorce and his father puts the blame on him. This is why the main quote from the book is “my father is trying to kill me.” This obviously scared him in every way possible. He had to live with his father everyday and with his condition, he could not fight back. The way that he would cope with his current situation was to watch television. Whatever he watched gave him a sense of comfort. His dad would sometimes get so mad that he would throw things at Shawn and say hurtful things. With his super power of being able to remember everything, the things his dad said eats at him. This was a cycle that would repeat for many months. The only good thing in Shawn’s life is television. After the fights with his dad that is the way he can get away from his dad. In the end Shawn’s father is a writer and he is trying to figure out what it would be like to have a son with CP and the struggles with their everyday lives.
