During her visit she saves a prince from drowning, falls in love with him,and then never sees him again. She longs for the prince and an eternal soul so she goes to the Sea Witch to make her wishes come true. The witch gives Ariel a set of legs in exchange for her tongue. However, in order for her to stay human she has to find true love's kiss and marry the prince. Ariel drinks the potion and meets the Prince. He finds her attractive and loves to see her dance. Ariel ignores the pain and dances to please him. But one day the prince meets another girl working at the temple, falls in love with her, and marries her instead of Ariel because he thinks she is the one who saved him. Later, Ariel is then given a knife and told to kill the prince in order to save herself from death. She does not obey and instead, throws the knife into the ocean. Because she did not obey her command, she soon dies and disintegrates into sea foam.
