FC: 7 tips to limit data collection | Camden D. 2012

For all of you who don't know, everything you click on online, companies from around the U.S.A can collect information about you based on your online behavior, and then they might say some rude mail to you. So here are some ways you can get rid of almost all of those problems with these 7 tips for limiting data collection.

 1. Make sure you have anti-virus software

Without anti-virus software, companies can send you junk that can give you a virus. Be warned, there are not good citizens living on Earth. | I drew the virus using Paint, so it really isn't a borrowed resource. Virus 11/1/12

 2. Protect or remove your web bugs.

What web bugs are, they tell when a message is sent and record the IP address of the viewer. It is very dangerous if someone discovers your web bugs, so protect them, or remove them.

 3. Don't use or open malicious links.

Opening a malicious link in a mail is a serious mistake. One mess up and your whole computer is hacked. Just don't open the mail and delete them.

 4. Don't sign up to a website you don't like or are not interested.

If you find a website that has signing up on it, don't join it if you don't like it. Companies can use these websites for more information about you.

 5. Remove unwanted cookies

What computer cookies are, they're information that stores into your computer when you visit certain websites. If companies find your cookies, you might be in trouble. Remove the cookies that you think you won't need.

 6. Change your social network accounts to "friends only".

By switching to "friends only", only your online friends can see your online information about yourself. Don't be friends with people you don't know, just ignore the friend request.

 7. Be careful of what you buy online. Online people want to see what you are buying online so they know what to buy online. Companies can use all those things that you bought online to get information on what you need.
