FC: Celebrating the New Year 2014 in the Society Islands

1: Island Hopping in the Society Islands of French Polynesia | Dec 26 Drove to Dallas and spent the night Dec 27 After lunch we went to the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport for American Flight #2459 to Los Angeles. We departed Los Angeles at 11:00 pm on Air Tahiti Flight 101 for Tahiti Dec 28 Arrived in Papeete, Tahiti and was taken to the The Le Meridien Hotel for the use of a day room. At 3:30 pm we were transfered by bus to the Paul Gauguin. Dec 29 Explored the highlights of Raiatea by bus. Dec 30 Spent the day at the beach on Motu Mahana at Taha'a and feasted on barbecue & island drinks. Dec 31 Walked about Vaitape and enjoyed shopping at a craft mall in Bora Bora Jan 1 Spent the day at a private beach on Motu Tevairoa swimming and snorkeling in Bora Bora Jan 2 Enjoyed a jeep tour of the highlights of Moorea Jan 3 Took a launch to Papetoai, Moorea for craft shopping, enjoyed a farewell dinner and party and sailed for Papeete, Tahiti. Jan 4 Walking tour of Papeete, bus tour of area, and a ferry transfer to Moorea. Jan 5 Bus tour, a visit to the Atitia Culture Center, and relaxed at our resort. Jan 6 Ferried to Papeete, had our goodbye dinner and flew home. | December 26, 2013 --January 6, 2014

2: Setting out on another great adventure starting in Dallas 17 hours and 5,346 miles later we arrived in Papeete, Tahiti

3: Maeva "Welcome" to Tahiti

4: Arriving in Papeete, Tahiti at 6 am, we were taken to the Le Meridien Hotel for the use of a day room. We started the day with a long nap and a shower before exploring our new surroundings.

6: December 28, 2013 Transfered from the Le Meridien to the Paul Gaugiun Cruise Ship for the next seven nights.

14: Raiatea Highlights Island Bus Tour Explored the evolution of Tahiti's terrain, ancient culture and local way of life. We traveled the east coast to the Fa'aroa Bay. Visited Marae Taputapuatea, a revered archaeological site. While strolling around its sacred ground we learned about Tahitian society and the history of the Maohi people. First photo stop was of spectacular vistas of the mountains and volcanic craters. Second photo stop was overlooking the breathtaking lagoon framed by coconut palm beaches. The third photo stop was made for panoramic views of Huahine, the Motu Islands, coral reefs, and crystal clear water. We stopped to try refreshing tropical fruit. We were served coconut in the 3 stages of its life, papaya, grapefruit and lime water. The final stop was at a Black Pearl Farm and we learned how black pearls were made.

26: Bora Bora | Excited to explore Bora Bora | Our launch...ship to shore transfer

28: Our Gauguin made us each a custom coconut drink. He first cut the top off of the coconut and scooped the top out of the shell for us to eat. He invited us to drink as much of the coconut water that we wanted to be replaced with alcohol. Then he added ice, what rum or other alcohol, of our choice, to make our custom island drink.

48: We discovered a huge pineapple plantation, visited Marea Titiroa, and ascended to the Belvedere Lookout Point to see spectacular vistas over Cook's and Opunohu Bays. We also took a steep bumpy ride to the top of Magic Mountain to see our ship anchored in Opunohu Bay. | Aito Off Road Safari

70: Papeete City Tour & Area We visited the highlights of the area, including Tahara's View Point, Pointe Venus, Arahoho Blowhole, Faarumai Waterfall, the James Norman Hall Museum, City Hall, the cathedral, Bougainville Park and Paofai Temple.

72: Municipal Market in downtown Papeete offering local farm products, handicrafts, souvenirs and a variety of fish and food products

77: The House and Museum of James Norman Hall He moved to Tahiti shortly after WWI ended. He and Charles Nordhoff wrote the story Mutiny of the Bounty.

79: During World War I James Norman Hall served in Great Britain as an infantryman, then as a pilot for France and later a pilot for the United States.
