It is the most populous city in the state of California and the second most populous city in the United States. Los Angeles was founded on September 4th, 1781.

Geography | Los Angeles lies on a hilly coastal plain with the Pacific ocean as its southern and western boundaries. There are lots of canyons and valleys. The city goes north to the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains and is bounded by the San Gabriel Mountains to the east.

The warm, moist pacific air keeps temperatures mild throughout the year. Summers are dry and sunny. Most of the rain in LA occurs during winter. The best time to travel to Los Angeles is in the summer or winter months. The weather is most predictable at this time so heavier clothes are not needed. | Geography

Cultural Awareness | They speak English and use American money. There is a variety of different types restaurants in Los Angeles.

Sports in Los Angeles | Sports is a very big thing in Los Angeles. They have a total of seven major sports teams. Four of them play in the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles.

Today during my trip to Los Angeles I went to a Clippers game in the Staples Center. The Clippers were playing last year's champion the Miami Heat. The Heat and Clippers are loaded with star players so it was going to be a close game. The Heat took an early lead and were up at halftime by six points. The Clippers would not go away though, hanging in there with the score tied at the end of the third quarter. It came down to the very last seconds and the Clippers hit a buzzer-beater and the game was over. The Clippers won. | Journal #1

Today I went to Disney Land. It was really fun going on all the rides and seeing all the Disney characters. I even saw a live musical performance there. I saw all the Disney characters I was hoping to see like Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and Buzz Lightyear. I ate some very good food inside the park too. I had a great time. | Journal #2

Journal #3 | Today I went to a Los Angeles Lakers game. They play in the Staples Center too. Today they were playing the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were leading by eight at the end of the first quarter. It seemed like the Lakers didn't show up to play because the Celtics lead kept getting bigger and bigger. At halftime the Lakers were down by nineteen. The Celtics ended up winning by thirty-six. The Lakers played awful.

Journal #4 | Today I went to a Los Angeles Angels game. They play in Angel Stadium. Today they were playing the Boston Red Sox. The Angels are one of the two baseball teams in Los Angeles. It was really fun. Before the game I got a bunch of autographs from each team's star players. The only bad thing was that the Angels lost.

Both Overland Park and Los Angeles are largely populated. On the other hand, Los Angeles has seven major sports teams and Overland Park has zero. Los Angeles is located on the west coast while Overland Park is located in the Midwest. Similarly, Los Angeles and Overland Park are not the capitals of their states. However in there are beaches in Los Angeles and none in Overland Park. Los Angeles has a professional hockey team but Overland Park does not. | Compare and Contrast

Cause and Effect | This journey in Los Angeles has meant a lot to me. I've learned what it's like to watch a Lakers game in the Staples Center. One of the most important things I've learned to do is how to handle myself in a big city. I think that will come in handy in the future for when I travel to other big cities. LA taught me some very important things. I'm very glad that I chose to take a trip to Los Angeles.

All in all, Los Angeles has taught me some great life lessons. Most importantly it has taught me how to handle myself in big cities. And as Saint Augustine said "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."
