32: Day 0 Sunday, November 28, 2010 - Met up with Amisha Kapadia, Patti Tesla, Bill Bertelli, and Tom Nicolett in the Sikorsky parking lot at 5pm. - Took the CT Limo to New York City - Had dinner at Carmines restaurant - Visited the Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center - Stayed the night at the Marriott in Times Square in New York City. Day 1 Monday, November 29, 2010 - Left the hotel at 5:30am to go to JFK Airport. - Took a flight to Seattle and then to Anchorage, Alaska at 4pm local time. - Arrived at the Sheraton Anchorage, our home for the next 4 nights. | Trip Log of Events
33: - Went to dinner at Humpy's with the AK National Guard Colonel Tim DeHaas, his wife Shannon, and his daughter Cody. - Had the famous $120 platter which consisted of crab cakes, king crab legs, reindeer sausage, and berry crisp dessert, as well as some fried halibut. Day 2 Tuesday, November 30, 2010 - Arrived at the National Guard Base at 5:30 am for our Operation Santa Trip to the Village of Hoonah - Received the unwelcome news that the event was cancelled due to bad weather in Juneau. - Met General Chuck Foster, General Deborah McManus, Rich Owens from Tastee-Freeze Ice Cream Shop, the legendary Mr. White Keys while at the base. - Had breakfast at Gwenny's - Saw the sights and sunrise over the Alaskan mountain ranges - Went dog mushing with competitive dog musher Dario Martinez at Moose Meadow Park - Went to the Wildlife Reserve in Anchorage - Bought souvenirs from Walmart
34: Day 3 Wednesday, December 01, 2010 - The weather cooperated and we had Operation Santa trip today!! - Left the hotel at 5:45 am and boarded an Air Guard C-130 fixed wing aircraft with Colonel Tim DeHaas, Shannon DeHaas, Major General Tom Katkus and his wife Jo Katkus, Rich from Tastee-Freeze, Santa and Mrs Clause - Arrived in Juneau and met up with the rest of the Operation Santa Crew, including Governor Sean Parnell and his wife Sally Parnell. - Took several photo ops with the three Guard helicopters: Coast Guard with the Jayhawk, the Air Guard with the Pavehawk, and the Army Guard with the Blackhawk, L model. - Sikorsky employees flew in the Army Guard Blackhawk with Governor Parnell, Sally Parnell, Shannon DeHaas, General Katkus and Jo Katkus - Set up the Operation Santa event in the Hoonah School. - Took the helicopter back to Juneau and the C-130 back to Anchorage. - Chatted with the C-130 crew in the cockpit and looked at the stars using night vision goggles. - Had dinner at The Glaciers Brewhouse with all of the Operation Santa members
35: Day 4 Thursday, December 02, 2010 - Got tours of the National Guard bases: Fort Richardson for the Army Guard and Elmendorf for the Air Guard. - Units 210, 211, and 212 - Had sushi lunch at the Japanese restaurant Da Mi. - Spent the rest of the afternoon souvenir shopping downtown - Tim and Shannon DeHaas invited us over their house for a “game dinner” and a Quad-A meeting. - Dinner included musk ox, moose, and reindeer, all of which were hunted by either Tim or one of the other Guard men - General Kaktus announced that he was promoting Colonel Tim DeHaas to General of the Army Guard - Colonel Tim DeHaas presented each one of us with his coin Day 5 Friday, December 03, 2010 - Took a flight back to Connecticut - Received a coin from General Katkus at the Airport (given to us by Tom Nicolett) - The end of a beautiful trip
