Our visit to the Alto Vista Church was followed by lunch at the Aruba Ostrich Farm
Bushiribana Gold Smelter Ruins | Built of natural stone in 1825, the smelter was originally made to look like a fort to keep pirates away from the gold. In 90 years of operation, the smelter produced 3 million pounds of gold.
Natural Bridge Ruins | The natural bridge collapsed on September 2, 2005. The limestone bridge was known to be the largest of its kind, standing over 7 meters high and 30 meters wide.
The Andicuri Beach view from the Natural Bridge Ruins. | This was the only place we swam on the east side of the island - the waves are much bigger! After a hot morning drive it was extremely refreshing and fun trying out the underwater camera for the first time.
Our "journey" to the Natural Pool was quite the adventure. After refusing to pay for someone to drive us there, we encountered flat tires, slashed tires and a few navigation issues. Looking back it was definitely a highlight of the trip!
Snorkeling at Palm Beach & Baby Beach | We went for our first dive near the end of our trip. Our only regret is that we didn't go sooner! We spent our last two days looking at the bottom of the sea and feeding the fish all our leftover bread. We tried a few different spots around the island where we saw an assortment of sergeant majors, blowfish, sand snakes, bar jacks, angelfish, yellow tang, pufferfish, stoplight parrotfish, needlefish and many more! The grand finale however was the sea turtle right at the end of our second day :)
We discovered the south end of Aruba after our snorkeling adventures at Baby Beach. We decided to just drive and find out where the road went. Little did we know that we were uncovering yet another island treasure.
INCREDIBLE | The Seroe Colorado Lighthouse is somewhat hidden at the south point of the island. It is located right below the oil refinery and the ghost town of Seroe.
At the end of the day, the sun was setting, the pavement was hot and we had enough memories to last a lifetime. We took one last look and waved farewell for now Aruba.
