S: Backpacking 2011

BC: Can you spot any similar genetics?

FC: Backpacking 2011 | Cody, Ken & Taylor go to Kananaskis.

1: backpacking | The Enns boys go to the backcountry. | August 2011. Ribbon Falls, Ribbon Lake, Guinn Pass, Lillian Lake.

2: check out the tent and roll the thermarests. | Let the preparations begin

3: Testing out the sleeping bags and checking the thermarests for holes.

4: The food is packed, the packs are weighed.

5: Go over the maps. Get the hike documents ready.

6: Taylor | Cody | After a big breakfast and some time touring Kananaskis village, it's time to enter the bush.

7: Ken | Rain delayed the start till after lunch.

8: On the way to Ribbon Falls.

10: Many rivers and streams along the way

13: After a wet morning, the rest of the day was perfect. 11km of easy hiking to Ribbon falls. height gain 311m.

14: Taylor makes a friend.

16: First night campsite. Ribbon Falls. Bear lockers and tent pads provided.

18: You do what you gotta do to keep warm.

19: Tomorrow we are climbing up there....YIKES

20: Getting ready to leave Ribbon Falls on a cool morning. day 2

21: They can see the mountain they are going to heave themselves up.

24: THE CHAINS 3 sets of chains imbedded into the side of the cliff. Grab on and hoist yourself up the side of the mountain.

25: Destination - 3km straight up.

27: Taylor's turn. The last few feet were the toughest. No place to put your feet. Just hurl yourself, and your 40lb pack, up there.

29: Cody took pictures while he climbed the chains.! Yikes... (good thing mom wasn't watching)

30: Not quite at the top yet. Had to navigte around some sketchey pathways, along the bottom of the headwall. Again, chains provided.

35: Holy crap that is a long way down... And it is real windy at the top. But worth every step.

39: The spectacular waterfalls and boistrous streams are the reward for the day.

40: Heading to the next destination at Ribbon Lake | Ribbon Lake | Ribbon Falls | Home to mom

43: Campground for night 2. After a difficult climb this day, the site of the lake campground was very welcome.

47: a marmot came along for the journey | Many streams to cross

49: Guinn's Pass 7900ft elevation. zig zag up 3.3km of exhausting climb to a panoramic views.

53: They found some snow on the back side of the Pass.

54: They made their mark with a pile of rocks.

55: It is said that, up here, many backpackers are found lying in various states of heat exhaustion, greedily lapping up water from the gully bed.

56: They met some other hikers along the way.

59: Guinn Pass is HELL | This is what happens when you don't eat breakfast

60: What goes up... must come down.

62: Taylor making breakfast

63: Taylor challenged the old fella to a pole fight on the footbridge

64: Codygoes out to fetch a pail of water.

65: Final night in the bush. Camped at Lillian Lake

71: 6.5 km out from Lillian lake. pass over 10 bridges to get back to the highway

72: Like all wild animals, they marked their terratory...

73: Hitchhiking back to the car, Ken saw a bear on the other side of the ditch and had to pull out the bear spray.
