1: Costa Rica literally translates to "Rich Coast". Known as the greenest country in the world, Costa Rica ranks first on the Happy Planet Index which measures human well-being and environmental impact. Though the country is small in size, it possesses the highest density of species anywhere. Twenty five percent of the country is protected in National Parks and Forests. We noticed a true sense of pride and strong work ethic from the people we met and learned that most "Ticos" live long and fulfilling lives. Everyone was very friendly and enjoyed wishing us a "Pura Vida!" We stayed at the Allegro Papagayo Resort in Guanacaste. | January 14 - 21, 2011 | Our Trip to Costa Rica

12: The morning after we arrived in Costa Rica, we took an hour and a half drive to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. We hiked up the mountain for about 15 minutes then zipped through the trees on cables that were 150-500 feet off the ground over canyons, creeks and forest. It was a 12 platform course that took about an hour and was an unforgettable experience. The gang took on the 1365 ft. waterslide, the only one of it's kind in the country constructed totally inside the forest. The water was COLD and the slide was FAST! After our adventurous morning, we enjoyed a great buffet lunch of delicious wonderful food along with great friends. We then rode further down the mountain on horseback while some took a very bumpy tractor ride. We all met at the Hot Springs Spa- a gorgeous hidden paradise surrounded by the trees, streams and wildlife. We sat in a sauna for a few minutes before applying HOT volcanic mud all over our bodies. We let the mud dry (come on healing powers!) then took a VERY cold shower before relaxing in several of the natural spring pools, each of a different temperature (we all liked the hot springs the best). . Everyone really enjoyed The Mega-Combo Tour! | Mega-Combo Tour

20: ARENAL VOLCANO, RAIN FOREST WALK & HOT SPRINGS Midweek we started out our day with a three hour bus ride to the province of Alujuela to visit a conically shaped volcano named Arenal. It is the most active volcano in Costa Rica. Unfortunately, we were unable to see the top due to the low clouds. After a wonderful lunch in a small nearby town called LaFortuna, we headed to our hike in the tropical rain forest that is called "the jewel of the earth" located at the bottom of the Arenal Volcano. We saw many different types of plant life, flowers and wildlife that are characteristic of this region. We then headed to the Hot Springs, which are surrounded by tropical gardens that cover the entire property. The hot springs were very relaxing after our hike through the rain forest.

28: White Water Rafting On our last full day in Costa Rica, we decided to be adventurous and go white water rafting. After yet another bus ride through countryside roads, we arrived ready to roll! During our three hour river ride we spotted many different types of wildlife and plant life while we paddled down the calm parts of the river. As we came upon the strong currents it was absolutely amazing as we felt our adrenaline levels rise as we paddled for our lives!
