2: The weight of people totaled 1919! Good thing we packed LIGHT! | At the Portland Jetport. | Good place to stretch your legs! | Keep Us Safe Lord, help us do your work.

3: oNE OF OUR FIRST VIEWS OF hAITI | The flight on this Douglas C-3 was a highlight of our trip! | We were able to walk around and sit up with the pilots! | The pilot said a prayer before take off | Amazing Flight!

16: Just off the street, behind the gate, is a beautiful resort. This is for tourists, as the locals find employment here.

22: Getting to Church | Heading to Pastor Saintil's church | We could see the water between the floor boards

25: We were invited to Pastor Saintel's church service. We were seated in a front row of the left side of the church. It was hot. There were overhead fans going. A young man got up and placed a fan to blow directly on us. An older woman placed a young baby (grand baby?), in Laura's arms. She slept in her arms for most of the service. We sang 2 versions of Amazing Grace.

26: We had wonderful native food preparded for us | Fresh Avocado, Bananas, Mango, Mumba

27: We certainly ate well! Kathi's first meal after returning to the states. She ate most of it herself!

30: Beauty is everywhere. Sometimes you may have to look beyond the surface. Beautiful purple flowers flourish in the midst of trash.

31: Mud Cookies | Mud Cookies are made from mud, a type of shortening to hold them together and a type of flavoring. There are different ways to prepare them, but they all are basically the same. The cookies are baked in the hot sun. Mothers make them to sell to obtain money to feed her children. They are given to starving children when there is no food to be had. Although no nutrition is obtained, it fills bellies to quiet hunger pains. | Parasites and worms are transmitted by ingesting dirt

38: Nightly bedtime bug spray | Arlene had turned the light on. It was about 2am. Her "tent" had fallen down on top of her. | What to do in the middle of the night without tools? Use whats handy, a coat hanger! Maine ingenuity!

47: Even 5 on a motorcycle is a common site! Saw a coffin carrying motorcyclist! | Even the carts have to be registered and licensed. Common mode of transporting goods

49: Some of the sights seen while driving or riding in the tap tap on the streets of Haiti. No "rules of the road" here! Or at least not in the way we know them.

53: Many patients are all in the same ward. | Families provide medications | Family must provide care for patients

54: The police station and the United Nations (Chili) are located on the same block as the mission house

64: Laundry day. Clothes are bleached very white by the hot sun. | I can't even keep MY clothes white!

67: As we were let in the gate, 2 young boys walked in with us. | Th | The boys were asked to leave. They spoke to him, as he bent over to reply to the boys. They sat in chairs as he left the pavillion. | Brother Johnson asked if they were with us. | Upon return he gave each boy a napkin wrapped item. Impressive!
