FC: KrisTiki's Circle Island Tour | OAHU
1: KrisTiki's Circle Island Tour 1989-2009 Oahu, Hawaii | 1989 - Granny took Mom, herself, and me to Hawaii on a TWA tour. My choices were fly to UK on the Concord and come straight back or Hawaii for a week...I took HAWAII! I was 17 and just graduated from High School! 2001 - Traveled to Hawaii to meet an old bf. Long story short, i lived there for 6 months from 2001 to April 2002. The best things from that time were meeting Bev Robinson, and adopting her as my Hawaii Mom and picking up Tiki at the airport. 2003 - Just to prove there was no jinx on my enjoyment of Hawaii, Andrea and I traveled to Hawaii and stayed with Bev. Then we all went to Big Island for some adventures there! 2006 - Moving from Europe to Australia, I came by Hawaii again to visit and help Bev move from her house to her new apartment! 2007/08- Christmas trip to Hawaii by myself, crashed at Bev's for the night then flew on to KC. On the way back through to AU--stayed with Bev again! Have more fun with her! 2010 - On the move back to USA, stayed overnight at the hotel--got to meet Bev's MOM and visit with Joanne and the work girls, more fun! Making this book in 2010, You never know what the next trip may bring!!! | OAHU

10: 1989 - KLW: I was fascinated by this waterfall. I took some photos of it and it never left my mind. I like the colors, it's simply made from 4x4 tiles, and the water falling from the top made the fish look like they were swimming. The movie theater is where Mom took me to see Raiders of the Lost Ark, great movie! I can still remember sitting in the movie theater seats watching it! | 2003 - KLW: The tile fascade at the Waikiki Business Plaza is still here! Still love it, and they've prettied it up a bit by adding a little garden at the bottom. When Mom and I were here in 1989, they had just built a shopping complex ocean side, and now it is thriving with businesses and has nice statues outside!
14: 1989 - Chinatown, Honolulu KLW: Mom, How do you eat rice with chopsticks? Sandy: Well, I guess you use them to pick up each grain of rice. That must be why asian people are so thin. It takes them a really long time to eat once grain of rice at a time. KLW: Oh. (Enter large group of chinese tourists at the authentic chinese restaurant...) KLW: Hey, MOM! Those people are not eating rice 1 grain at a time! They are cheating, they have overcooked the rice so it's clumpy and they are pushing it into their mouths with chopsticks... Sandy: Hmmm, I think they are cheating. They must not have table manners.
20: 1989: Granny & Kristi Under the giant Banyon tree 2010: It's still there.... And yes! look at my neon green water shoes! :) | Hawaiian Native--Red Headed something bird | If there's a zoo, I will want to go. It's the first word I could ever spell, you know! At the end of Waikiki beach, it's a small zoo, but fun. It's also got an Art exhibit from local artists each Saturday, nice place to get some paintings or prints. Also, it's just at one end of the park. The park hosts numerous shows and movies across the street on the beach. ALSO, worth a note: 2010, it's a good place to go if you DO NOT want to be bothered by men. The little area of grass over by the water across from the zoo...it's where the gay men hang out. (It's also fantastic for people watching...ICK.)
22: diamond head crater
24: Drive up the coast
26: Haunama Bay | A day out..Hanauma: Get your gear together (Walmart sells cheap fins and snorkels) or for rent down on the beach. It's changed alot since 1989, there's an entire complex uptop, regular buses that drive you down, and all must watch a MOVIE about the reef before they go. Add to that, the KrisTIKI preparation: Stop at the grocery store down the hill (Diamond Head bound) and grab some picnic supplies--cooked mini Tako (see photo right), Tako Poke (octopus cooked in a sauce, and other assorted salads/bread. Have a picnic at the top, no need to haul it all down. STOW everything valuable in the trunk, cross your fingers. Change into your suit at the car with a towel wrapped around you...Like a local. Laugh hysterically when you flash everyone as your towel drops...:D be glad you Andrea did NOT have the camera ready! Set up on the beach make some friends with some not so skinny finnish girls and watch each other's stuff as you snorkel! Back to the car when you are exhausted...change back with the towel mechanism. Head to either a shower or the BAR!--either one does nicely!
27: YUCK! YOU EAT IT!
28: 1989- Don't panic when you snorkel...if you can't breathe, just Stand UP. tour guide handing us gear. 2001- Cover up your parts...Jason to his buddy, flashing the beach. 2003- YUCK you eat these? Andrea at Tako (octopus from the grocery) 2003- What do you mean we have to watch a MOVIE? *don't stand on the coral* 2003- *AAHH!!** JELLYFssss...Oh, PLASTIC BAG! (Kristi is terrified of both in the water!)

92: Mililani Walmart | Mililani Town – The search for WALMART --you have not truely been to Hawaii until you try directions in Hawaiian!!! Oct 2003 | So on the return from your North Shore adventure, you’re tired, and needing a quick supply run to one of the two (at the time) Walmart’s on the island. The Waipahu WM is out of the way but hey, Mililani is right along the H2! Problem is: this is the ONLY Walmart in the known universe that is hidden in residential districts and has NO SIGNAGE to show that it exists, and no real other shopping areas around it! (or a street address) Yes we drove around for at least an hour—we’ve toured ALL of Mililani—and it’s not that big. Finally, good ol’ mobile phones, I called 411, asked for directions—and THEY could not find it, either. This was prior to GPS devices. And as you can see from the current internet listing here in 2011, they STILL do not publish a street address OR a phone number to call them! The mysterious Mililani Walmart will remain LOST for years Next time, just drive the extra 4 miles to the Waipahu WM –and better yet, there’s now one downtown! Our search lasted over 1hour. We were victorious. :) | I KNOW it's here...I've been there before--it does take 3 hours to find though. | Are you sure there is one?? | I'm tired. | We're all tired. But it's a MISSION NOW. WE WILL FIND IT.
